Duties

As a Research Science Officer you will: Provide scientific leadership in planning, developing, coordinating, implementing, and monitoring of Divisions/Laboratories/Offices (DLO) research and prevention programs, and assistance to the DLO Division Director in establishing the scientific direction and objectives for the Division, ensuring compliance with Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), and DLO standards and policies. Provide scientific leadership and expertise in the development and execution of DLO research projects, ensuring scientific soundness and technical feasibility. Serve as a recognized senior expert and consultant in health science for the agency with responsibility for developing policy and objectives, appraising programs, and initiating requirements for health scientific research studies. Conduct research (such as toxicological) in area of expertise.

Qualifications

All qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of the announcement. Basic Qualifications: Bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree: major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position. This degree must be from an educational program from an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. Minimum Qualifications: To qualify at the GS-15 grade level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-14 grade level, which must include the following experience: providing leadership in the development and execution of research projects; developing policy and objectives; evaluating programs; and providing scientific advisory on the implementation of occupational disease and injury research program. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Education

Copy of your transcripts or equivalent documentation is required for positions with an education requirement, or if you are qualifying based on education or a combination of education and experience. An official transcript will be required if you are selected.

College or university degree generally must be from an accredited (or pre-accredited) college or university recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. For a list of schools which meet these criteria, please refer to Department of Education Accreditation page.

You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education program.
