Duties
As a Research Epidemiologist you will:
Serves as principal investigator, epidemiologic research project team leader, and/or scientific researcher for epidemiologic scientific studies of various emerging public health issues and problems as it relates to occupational safety and health.
Plans and carries out research projects and selects epidemiologic methods to be used in quality control analysis.
Conducts feasibility studies to evaluate potential research projects, including the identification of occupational groups suitable for conduct of the research and surveillance.
Initiates and maintains contacts with epidemiologists, health scientists, engineers, physicians, statisticians and other research personnel in government agencies, academic institutions, and industry, who are involved in common areas of research.
Prepares comprehensive reports of national surveillance system analyses that include discussion of substantive health issues and research objectives; assessment of the adequacy and quality of data used in research; and explanation of the methodologies, results, and relevance to occupational safety and health issues as they relate to the epidemiological problem under study.

Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree: major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position. This degree must be from an educational program from an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.
Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify at the GS-13 grade level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level, which must include the following experience: developing, managing, and disseminating findings from occupational respiratory health epidemiologic studies.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Education
Copy of your transcripts or equivalent documentation is required for positions with an education requirement, or if you are qualifying based on education or a combination of education and experience. An official transcript will be required if you are selected.
College or university degree generally must be from an accredited (or pre-accredited) college or university recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. For a list of schools which meet these criteria, please refer to
