This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.
About the Position: This position is located at Ft. Novosel, Alabama, home of the United States Army Aviation Center of Excellence. Fort Novosel is located in the "Wiregrass" area in Southeast Alabama, surrounded by Enterprise, Ozark and Daleville.
Duties
Operates the UH-60 Helicopter while instructing and evaluating the copilot.
Conducts continuation training of other Maintenance Instructors to ensure currency and proficiency.
Conducts classroom instruction on all aspects of the UH-60 Helicopter.
Instruct and evaluate classroom portions of the Maintenance Test Pilot Course (MTPC) in accordance with Course Management Plans (CMP).
Instruct and evaluate aviation students on pre-flight through post flight proficiency in the UH-60 Helicopter.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires the incumbent to obtain and maintain a SECRET security clearance.
- This position is subject to a pre-employment drug test and random testing thereafter.
- This position is subject to rotating shifts.
- Candidates for all pilot positions must possess a current first or second-class medical certificate in accordance with FAA regulations. (A copy MUST be uploaded with your application in order to be considered for this position)
- This position requires incumbent to obtain and maintain a Department of the Army Class II annual Flight physical.
Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: (1) instructing rated and non-rated pilots in maintenance test flight procedures in the UH-60 helicopter; (2) instructing and evaluating pilots in basic and advanced test flight task such as maneuvers, aircraft systems and limitations for the UH-60; (3) conducting classroom instruction concerning the UH-60 aircraft systems and operating procedures; and (4) monitoring standardization requirements, recommend changes in lesson plans, program of instruction, training methods and techniques. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12).
Certifications: This position requires you possess the appropriate Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Pilot Certificates, FAA Flight Instructor Certificate and/or appropriate military rating. Heavy Helicopter Hours - 500 (Up to 250 hours flying time acquired in heavy multi-engine airplanes may be substituted)
Instrument Hours - 75

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-12).
