This Position is located in Natchez National Historical Park, in the Maintenance Division. This job announcement is open to receive applications from the first 50 applicants. Duties

This position is located at the Natchez National Historical Park in the district of Natchez, Mississippi. Performs repairs to buildings and quarters. Constructs, installs, repairs and replaces items such as doors, shelves, supply racks, hardware, frame structures, windows, trim and cabinets. Replaces defective siding, steps, windowsills and thresholds; replaces glass panes and damaged portions of concrete or wooden walks and/or steps. Uses both hand and power tools such as hammers, bars, handsaws, screw drivers, squares, skill saws, jig saws, routers, hand-held belt sanders and drills. Applies premixed paints or stains to masonry, gypsum board or wood surfaces using brushes or rollers. Paints various types of structures such as interior and exterior metal, wood and masonry surfaces, and a variety of wooden trim and new and old cabinets. Paints garbage cans, racks, and picnic tables and sign posts. Uses oil, lacquer and latex based paints, stains, varnishes, and thinners. Assists higher-level employees by mixing or stirring paints, moving drop cloths and scaffolds, and cleaning walls in preparation for painting. Cleans brushes, rollers and spray equipment. Utilizes scrapers, sandpaper, steel wool, brushes, rollers, ladders, air and airless sprayers. Performs plumbing tasks such as replacing hose bibs, valves, nipples, unions and elbows, fixtures, toilets, flush valves, faucets, and various types of pipe and copper lines. Cut and thread pipes and winterizes water systems. Utilizes a variety of materials, tools, and equipment associated with the plumbing trade. Patches and repairs roofs consisting of built up tar and paper, metal, as well as foam roofs and asphalt shingles. Patching consists of stopping leaks in historic and other buildings using materials which retain the original appearance without undue change in type of original construction. Repairs consist of removing all or part of roofing material and rebuilding to the point where leak proof covering and good drainage is obtained. Uses hand tools related to roofing repairs such as brooms, scrapers, ladders, square shovels, trowels, knives and spreaders. Receives detailed instructions, either orally or in the form of work orders, which outline the work to be done and the materials and methods to be used in accomplishing the job. Performs electrical tasks involving making repairs that can be accomplished by removing, replacing, tightening, splicing, and insulating defective wiring and fixtures. Utilizes hand tools such as screwdrivers, pliers, wire cutters, strippers, drills and soldering irons. The incumbent is not required to perform specified length and angled cuts required of higher graded electricians and their work is checked during progress and upon completion. Operates and performs operator maintenance on cars, trucks, and/or van and stake trucks to pick up supplies and to transport materials to and from work sites while assisting on project work. May operate a dump truck to haul earth, gravel, sand, and similar materials and/or debris. Operates a forklift to load and unload supplies and light equipment in a variety of situations. May maintain cars and light duty trucks in performing tune-ups filter changes, lubrication, tire repair and/or replacement, and minor electrical, fuel, cooling and exhaust system repairs. Performs masonry work of limited difficulty involving the maintenance, repair, construction, and/or stabilization of historic sites built of stone, mortar, or adobe and/or contemporary buildings, features or structures. As directed/prescribed, mixes soils, water and amendments for mortars or adobes; removes damaged portions of walls or other similar architectural features in preparation for repair work, and may perform duties that require a basic knowledge of applicable techniques and procedures to complete simple projects; and records location, time, and materials involved in process. Utilizes the common trade tools associated with this work, such as trowels, hammers, chisels, and crowbars. Required skill in the finishing of joints to match undamaged portions of the structure or use of airhammers, etc, is generally not required.
