You will serve as an INDUSTRIAL HYGIENIST of NMRTC JACKSONVILLE FL.

Duties

You will serve as Senior Industrial Hygienist and Site Specialist for the assigned IHPO. You will plan work to be accomplished by subordinates, set and adjust short-term priorities, and prepare schedules for completion of work. You will conduct baseline and periodic industrial hygiene site surveys. You will investigate possible work-related health problems that arise among workers. You will complete data analyses with results from an outside laboratory, write preliminary and final detailed reports and incorporate all findings into survey reports.

Requirements

  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
  • Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.

  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.
  • Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

Qualifications

In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of Specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Experience utilizing industrial hygiene concepts, principles, and practices (examples of a wide range of duties concerned with the identification, evaluation, and control of occupational health hazards found in a variety of industrial settings). Experience recognizing potential health hazards associated with a particular work environment and to select appropriate sampling techniques for measuring the extent of exposure. Experience working with methods of control for a wide variety of health hazard (ex: toxic chemicals, radiation, and noise). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.

Education

Applicants must meet the following positive education qualifications requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual: Applicants must possess:
  • A bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree in industrial hygiene, occupational health sciences, occupational and environmental health, toxicology, safety sciences, or related science; or
  • A bachelor's degree in a branch of engineering, physical science, or life science that included 12 semester hours in chemistry, including organic chemistry, and 18 additional semester hours of courses in any combination of chemistry, physics, engineering, health physics, environmental health, biostatistics, biology, physiology, toxicology, epidemiology, or industrial hygiene; or
  • Certification from the American Board of Industrial Hygiene(external link) (ABIH).

Courses in the history or teaching of chemistry are not acceptable.
