You will serve as a INDUSTRIAL HYGIENIST in the HEALTH MONITORING SHOP(C/1082), ENVTRON PROT/OCC SAFETY & HEALTH OFFICE (C/108) of TRIREFFAC KINGS BAY.
Duties
You will conduct occupational health surveys and inspections to ensure work processes and operations conform with applicable standards and regulations.
You will plan, coordinate and conduct assigned detailed surveys and investigations related to recognition, evaluation and formulation of controls for Occupational Health hazards.
You will provide on-site determinations and/or measurements of hazards and specify corrective actions to render work places safe in difficult or unusual situations.
You will performs laboratory analysis of material samples using standard methods.
You will investigate health problems, chemical and/or radiological hazards, utilizing varied monitoring and testing techniques.
You will prepare reports, analysis, evaluation and interpretation of results.

- Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
- You will be required to perform occasional sea duty.
- This position will be required to travel for worldwide deployment to Diego Garcia in support of SSGN overseas voyage repairs and will require Diego Garcia (DGAR) medical screening.
- May be required to work on nuclear systems and participate in RADCON activities as deemed necessary to meet operational needs.
- Certifications, as required, must be obtained and maintained.
Qualifications
GS-0690-11 In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
Experience applying industrial hygiene concepts, principles, practices and carrying out all industrial hygiene programs related to gas free engineering and Occupational Health.
Experience analyzing and/or evaluating occupational health hazards to include those for which the nature and extent of hazards is not completely understood.
Experience conducting environmental sampling, measurements, and inspection of facilities, work practices, and environmental conditions.
Experience conducting a variety of complex and interrelated tasks applicable to the proper quantification of area and/or personnel environment levels of toxic chemicals and physical agents.
Experience evaluating the potential toxicity of materials, identifies safe levels of exposure, and ascertains biological effects.
Experience Developing corrective measures to eliminate or control hazards identified during investigations.
Experience preparing written reports and guides.
GS-0690-09 In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
Assisting in the management of the gas free engineering program.
Experience conducting environmental samplings, measurements, and inspection of facilities, work practices and environmental conditions.
Experience providing no-site determinations and/or measurements of hazards and specify corrective actions in difficult or unusual situations.
Experience operating and/or maintaining a variety of complex equipment and other industrial hygiene/gas free equipment ( ie. level meters, personal sampling pumps, velometers).
Experience evaluating the potential toxicity of materials, identifies safe levels of exposure, and/or ascertains biological effects.
Experience developing corrective measures to eliminate or control hazards identified during investigations.
Experience providing on-site evaluation and/or determination of required actions in emergency situations involving spills or other loss of control of hazardous materials that are capable of jeopardizing gas free conditions at work sites.

Education
Applicants must meet the following positive education qualifications requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual: Applicants must possess:
- A bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree in industrial hygiene, occupational health sciences, occupational and environmental health, toxicology, safety sciences, or related science; or
- A bachelor's degree in a branch of engineering, physical science, or life science that included 12 semester hours in chemistry, including organic chemistry, and 18 additional semester hours of courses in any combination of chemistry, physics, engineering, health physics, environmental health, biostatistics, biology, physiology, toxicology, epidemiology, or industrial hygiene; or
- Certification from the American Board of Industrial Hygiene (external link) (ABIH).
Courses in the history or teaching of chemistry are not acceptable.
The education must be accredited by an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education (external link) at the time the degree was obtained. College Transcripts MUST be submitted to show proof of education.
