You will serve as an Industrial Hygienist in the OSH&E Support Division of the Occupational Safety and Health Office (Code 1084), of the environmental Protection/OCC Safety & Health Code (108), located at Intermediate Maintenance Facility (IMF) ofTRIREFFAC KINGS BAY.

Duties

You will act as Subject Matter Expert for junior employees accomplishing Industrial Hygiene. You will research and resolve command industrial hygiene problems that could have an effect on commands mission or duty to the safety of the employees. You will evaluate whether hazardous material is appropriate. You will shut down TRF-KB work (including contractors) that are not in compliance with applicable regulations.

Requirements

  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver’s license.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current IT-II certification.
  • This is a Mission Essential position. You will be required to ensure organization or facility continuity of operations and/or completion of tasks that are considered essential to the mission designated by a local or command decision.

Qualifications

For GS- 11: In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Experiencing identifying, evaluating and eliminating environmental conditions in the workplace. Experience measuring chemical exposures. Experience effectively communicating verbally and through written documents. Experience serving as liaison for Personnel Safety. For GS- 09: In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Experiencing identifying, evaluating and eliminating environmental conditions in the workplace. Experience measuring chemical exposures. Experience effectively communicating verbally and through written documents. Experience serving as liaison for Personnel Safety. The education must be accredited by an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education(external link) at the time the degree was obtained. Applicants must meet one of the following requirements:

  • A bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree in industrial hygiene, occupational health sciences, occupational and environmental health, toxicology, safety sciences, or related science; or
  • A bachelor's degree in a branch of engineering, physical science, or life science that included 12 semester hours in chemistry, including organic chemistry, and 18 additional semester hours of courses in any combination of chemistry, physics, engineering, health physics, environmental health, biostatistics, biology, physiology, toxicology, epidemiology, or industrial hygiene; or
  • Certification from the American Board of Industrial Hygiene(external link) (ABIH).

Courses in the history or teaching of chemistry are not acceptable.
