About the position: This position will be assigned to the Force Development Flight- Library Technician.
This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.
Duties
We are seeking a motivated and dedicated Library Technician to join our team. The primary responsibility of this position is to provide essential office support and assist management with the efficient operation of all circulation services, ensuring smooth library operations and excellent service to our community.
Responsibilities:
Responsible for all circulation service operations
Assists in training new library aides and technicians on circulation tasks
Independently performs circulation and registration duties following established procedures
Maintains automated and/or manual circulation files, including charged-out materials, user database files, registration files, reserves, document delivery, interlibrary loans, lost items and overdues.
Implements procedures for overdue materials
Arranges for replacement of lost or damaged items, following relevant AFIs and local guidance
Maintains reserve and interlibrary loan services, ensuring accurate fulfillment of all requests
Compiles and maintains library statistics on circulation, attendance, reference questions, and other required data
Provides ready reference services by locating information using standard library reference tools, referring difficult requests to the appropriate staff member
Explains the library classification scheme and general management of resources to customers
Explains library rules, regulations, circulation procedures, and entitlements to users
Assists library users with library equipment
Assists the supervisory librarian in developing and implementing programs, and marketing and publicity of library services and events
Prepares library displays
Recommends titles for possible inclusion in the collection
Uses the Integrated Library System (ILS), online databases, and other Internet resources to prepare subject bibliographies
Performs routine clerical tasks, including sorting and distributing library mail
Uses advanced functions of computer software to prepare, format, modify, edit, email, and print letters, reports, memos, and other documents
Assists with the technical services process as needed
Assists in conducting tours and group orientations
Refers difficult questions/problems concerning work processes to the appropriate staff member
Performs other related duties as assigned

Qualifying Experience:
Specialized experience in a library, providing specific knowledge of library rules, policies, and procedures for circulation and technical services.
Ability to read, write, and speak English
Experience or training demonstrating the ability to perform standard computer skills
General knowledge of standard library rules, policies, and procedures in circulation services
Typing experience is required
Work requires physical exertion, such as long periods of standing and recurring activities like bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, and reaching
Ability to push loaded book trucks and lift moderately heavy items
Physically able to frequently lift boxes up to 40 pounds
Must be able to reach up to 72 inches with or without the assistance of a step stool
Skill in applying standard customer service practices when dealing with the public

Education
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. This position does not allow for education substitution.
FOREIGN EDUCATION: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the requirements. You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education program. It is your responsibility to provide such evidence when applying.
