About the position: This position will be assigned to the Force Development Flight- Library Aid.
This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.
Duties
We are looking for an enthusiastic and detail-oriented Library Aid to join our team. In this role, you will provide general office support and assist management with the implementation of programs, publicity, and marketing efforts to promote library services. Your contributions will help enhance the library's overall operations and community outreach.
Responsibilities:
Shelves books, magazines, and other library materials, ensuring they are in the correct order
Reviews the library collection to ensure materials are maintained in their assigned areas
Checks the condition of books, removes obsolete/damaged materials for review by a librarian, and performs minor mending
Processes new, rebound, and reconditioned library materials for circulation and reference according to established procedures
Assists with the annual inventory of the collection
Assists with automated and manual circulation duties, including registering and deleting customers, charging and discharging library materials, taking requests for reserves/ interlibrary loans and ensuring requests are filled
Assists with processing overdues
Explains library rules to users and ensures compliance
Assists users in locating books and information using the Integrated Library System (ILS), online databases, Internet resources, and on the shelves
Refers difficult questions to lead technician or librarian
Performs routine clerical tasks, such as answering the telephone, taking messages, and referring callers or visitors to the appropriate staff
Assists in maintaining and updating library statistics and filing
Assists in office account duties as needed
Uses various computer and word processing software to prepare, email, and print letters, reports, memos, and other documents
Assists with the library procurement/acquisition process following established procedures
Assists in implementing programs, publicity, and marketing of library services
Performs other related duties as assigned

Requirements
- This position requires the incumbent to complete a background investigation with favorable results.
- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and one every three years thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
- This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.
- To be considered for this position, the applicant must be a U.S. Citizen or a Legal U.S. Resident for a minimum of 3 years and must reside in/around the area as noted in the Job Opportunity Announcement

Qualifying Experience:
Experience in responsible clerical or office work, demonstrating the ability to perform satisfactorily at the grade level of the position
Ability to read, write, and speak English
Experience or training demonstrating the ability to perform simple computer and word processing tasks
Typing skills are desirable
Requires some physical exertion, such as long periods of standing
Recurring activities include bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, and reaching
Ability to push loaded book trucks
Frequent lifting of moderately heavy items
Physically able to lift boxes up to 40 pounds
Able to reach up to 72 inches with or without the assistance of a step stool
Ability to deal effectively with the public
You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas:
Education
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. This position does not allow for education substitution.
FOREIGN EDUCATION: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the requirements. You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education program. It is your responsibility to provide such evidence when applying.
