This vacancy is for an IT Specialist (Network) in the Office of the Secretary within the Department of Commerce.
Duties
As an IT Specialist (Network), you will perform the following duties:
Provide senior level leadership, oversight, and expertise for managing large, nation-wide enterprise networks and network services and functions involving the most complex and difficult issues and problems that significantly impact DOC IT programs and functions. Functions as a senior technical authority for network issues within the OCIO. Analyze and evaluate network services and functions concerned with integrated systems of IT programs and/or IT equipment.
Lead programs, task forces, and project teams in accomplishing advanced IT systems, software, and hardware project efforts, and functions as an expert technical authority on network services and functions.
Advise staff and senior managers on proposed standard DOC technical architectures. Manage the engineering of wired, wireless, and unified communications (voice/data/video) solutions. Responsible for architecture management, setting information standards, and setting standards for software design and development, software and hardware configuration management, IT acquisition management, and testing and operation evaluation of DOC network programs, applications, equipment, and telecommunications networks.

Qualifications

Specialized experience is experience that has equipped the applicant with the particular competencies/knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. This experience need not have been in the federal government.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations e.g., professional; philanthropic, religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies; knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

To qualify at the GS-14 level you must meet all of the following requirements:
BASIC REQUIREMENT: For all positions individuals must have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and responsibility to the next lower grade level in the Federal Service. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped the applicant with the particular competencies/knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. This experience need not have been in the federal government.
To qualify for the GS-14 level, you must possess one full year (52 weeks) of IT-related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 level in the Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as:
Monitors and evaluates network systems (e.g. LAN, WAN, and cloud-based systems etc.) for configuration and optimization within a business or organization; and
Manages or leads IT programs or projects that require determining resource requirements, providing guidance to staff, and analysis of hardware and software to ensure outcomes are consistent with program requirements; and
Identifies and resolves problems and issues with network systems/ technologies in the accomplishment goals and objectives.
