You will serve as a HEALTH PHYSICIST in the Corporate Radiological Training Branch (Code 2360.3), Fleet Maintenance and Radiological Support Division (FMRSD) (Code 2300) of NORFOLK NAVAL SHIPYARD.
Duties
You will develop, review, and revise instructional materials for courses or occupations in accordance with the instructional systems design process.
You will plan and organize the work, determine possible sources of information, and conduct analysis.
You will evaluate and analyze the objectives and scope of training courses and their content in relation to practical applications in the corporation.
You will conduct and oversee evaluation and statistical analyses in order to determine the need for and the effectives of training programs.
You will plan, organize, and assure effective implementation and maintenance of health physics aspects of the radiation exposure reduction program for nuclear reactor plant repair and maintenance.
You will provide expert radiological engineering and health physics advice to the corporation in connection with routine and non-routine radiological work they perform.

- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
- You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
- You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
- You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
- This is a bargaining unit position.
Qualifications
In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
Experience planning, organizing, and ensuring effective implementation and maintenance of radiation and radioactivity control by implementing an understanding of the health physics aspects of the radiation exposure reduction program for nuclear reactor plant repair and maintenance.
Experience planning and designing effective training.
Experience conducting and/or overseeing evaluations and statistical analyses.
Experience developing, reviewing, and revising instructional materials for courses or occupations in accordance with specific learning objectives.
Experience applying instructional system design processes sufficient to review, and revise instructional materials for courses or occupations in accordance with specific learning objectives.
Experience implementing knowledge of the Radiological Controls Manual Requirements and the Corporate Nuclear Power Manual chapters. This knowledge shall include the basis for, and philosophy behind, these requirements sufficient to develop, review, and revise radiological controls instructional materials for courses or occupations within the corporation, as well as to act as a consultant to shipyard management and other organizations inside and outside of the shipyard.

Basic Requirements:

Degree: natural science or engineering that included at least 30 semester hours in health physics, engineering, radiological science, chemistry, physics, biology, mathematics, and/or calculus.

Combination of education and experience -- courses as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or other education; or certification as a health physicist by the American Board of Health Physics, plus appropriate experience and other education that provided an understanding of sciences applicable to health physics comparable to that described in paragraph A.
