This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Major Range Test Facility Base (MRTFB) to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.
About the Position: This position is located with the Directorate of Emergency Services, White Sands Missile Range, New Mexico
Duties
Serves as the Chief of the Patrol Branch and is responsible for law enforcement operations with supervision of law enforcement patrols.
Responsible for planning, assisting and scheduling work for subordinate.
Evaluates and/or write the performance ratings, awards, approves leave request, hears and resolves complaints, issues warning and reprimands.
Identifies training needs, submits requests for training.
Ensures all patrols with organizational SOP’s policies, current law enforcement techniques and skills
Maintains a current knowledge related to federal, state and local laws and policies.
Observes or responds to reports of crime ranging from violations of simple rules, felonies, and capital crimes.
Take charge of crime or accident scenes, and restricts access to individuals required on the scene
Detects, and protects evidence and witnesses at the scene of an incident; to statements, interviews sheets from witnesses and victims.
Interrogates suspect after proper rights advisement; and participates in short term investigations and makes notification to appropriate investigative authority.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
- The duties of this position meet the criteria for compliance with Federal and Department of the Army Drug Free Workplace Programs. Detection of the presence of drugs is warranted.
- This position is subject to the provisions of the Domestic Violence Offender Gun Ban commonly referred to as the Lautenberg Amendment.
- This position has a requirement to lift up to 40 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
- This position is supervisory as defined by the Office of Personnel Management's (OPM) General Schedule Supervisory Guide (GSSG). A one year probation to assess your ability to perform supervisory duties is required unless previously completed.
- This position requires the employee to use personal protective equipment provided by the employer.
- This position requires certification in cardiopulmonary resuscitation with Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) training.
- This position requires you to successfully complete Law Enforcement Academy.
- Incumbent must meet and maintain requirements of the Individual Reliability Program (IRP) in accordance with AR 190-56.
- This position requires the incumbent to obtain and maintain current required certifications and skill proficiency with assigned weapon.
- This position may require you to complete a physical agility test.
- This position may require flying on a military aircraft to extended periods of time.
- This position is Inclement Weather Essential position.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes evaluating work performance of subordinate supervisors; providing advice, counsel or instruction to employees and subordinate supervisors on work and administrative matters. Knowledge of a body of basic laws and regulations, law enforcement operations, practices, and techniques and involved responsibility for maintaining order and protecting life and property. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-10).
