This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Major Range Test Facility Base (MRTFB) to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: This is a Supervisory Police Officer (Traffic Investigator) at White Sands Missile Range.

Duties

Serves as senior subject matter expert for collision response, investigations, reconstruction and traffic management protocols. Develops and implements traffic plans and programs through use of in-depth surveys of traffic patterns. Prepares and approves traffic accident investigations and writes technical reports of investigative findings. Responds to and investigates emergency calls, complaints and other calls for service. Prepares documents, technical reports and charts statistical tables. Identifies developmental and training needs of personnel.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Successfully graduated from the United States Army Civilian Police Academy, unless incumbent has a currently approved waiver from the Office of the Provost Marshal Genera
  • Successfully graduated from a DoD, Federal, National, or State-approved Traffic Management and Collision Investigation (TMCI) course or complete within one year of assignment.
  • Incumbent must be able to successfully pass training, certification, and qualification requirements related to law enforcement work functions as prescribed by policy, regulations, or statutes.
  • This position include, but not limited to weapons qualifications, first aid/CPR and National Incident Management System (NIMS) training requirements.
  • Successfully pass a pre-employment and recurring medical evaluation.
  • Pass a Physical Agility Test (PAT) within 30 days of hire date and annually thereafter.
  • This is a drug testing designated position (TDP) under the Department of the Army Drug- Free Federal Workplace Program.
  • The 1996 Lautenberg Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968 covers this position. Incumbent is subject to removal from the position if convicted of a felony in accordance with Section 639 of P.L. 106-554 effective January 20, 2001.
  • Comply with and maintain the requirements of the Individual Reliability Program (IRP).
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid Tier 3 (Secret) security investigation.
  • Incumbent must meet the requirements of AR 190-56: Successfully pass a pre-employment and recurring medical / psychiatric evaluation.
  • Incumbent is subject to possible civil and criminal action due to improper exercises of authority or injudicious use of force in the apprehension or detention of individuals.
  • Hours of work are subject to irregular and rotating shifts, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays; required to work overtime as directed and is subject to recall for emergency overtime.
  • Persons convicted of a misdemeanor or felony crime of domestic violence are not eligible for this position.
  • Incumbent in this position is designated as Mission Essential (IAW DODI 3024.42 / DTM 17-004) position during Inclement Weather Conditions or other designed/identified emergency conditions.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes planning and conducting investigations and reconstruction for major property, serious injury and/or fatality traffic accidents; traffic management and controlling vehicles and pedestrian traffic at fixed posts; implements traffic plans and programs by establishing traffic surveillance AND maintaining order and protecting life and property. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-08).
