This position is located in the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), Los Angeles Division Office. This position(s) primary purpose is to receive, document, store, and dispose of non-drug evidence and/or bulk marijuana for a Field Division. The incumbent controls the chain of custody of evidence from receipt to disposition.

Duties

As a Evidence Custodian, your typical work assignments may include: Receiving seized evidence from special agents and diversion investigators during normal duty hours, ensuring it is accompanied by the appropriate forms, and records items in the appropriate logs, and enter into the appropriate electronic system. Performing day-to-day administrative tasks such as maintaining log books, files and processing paperwork while monitoring all office evidence inventory levels and movement using manual or computer systems. Referring to and applies existing policies, procedures, and guidelines when handling evidence to ensure compliance. Communicating and coordinating with management and staff to promote proper evidence accountability or provide guidance.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Employment is subject to the successful completion of a background investigation. Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance.

  • Incumbent may be required to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • The work may require the incumbent to drive a motor vehicle. An appropriate, valid driver's license may be required for the position.

Applicants applying for the GS-07 must meet one of the following requirements: Have at least one full year of qualifying specialized experience that is at least equivalent in difficulty and complexity to work performed at the GS-06 grade level. Specialized experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Qualifying specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Assisting the receiving, documenting, cataloging, storing, maintaining, and disposing of non-drug evidence to include bulk marijuana; 2) Organizing and overseeing loading, transporting, unloading, and witnesses destruction of evidence; 3) Taking action consistent with evidence control goals and policies. Applicants applying for the GS-08 must meet one of the following requirements: Have at least one full year of qualifying specialized experience that is at least equivalent in difficulty and complexity to work performed at the GS-07 grade level. Specialized experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
