The primary purpose of this position is to examine, verify, and maintain complex accounting transactions for travel covering operations which involve a number of different programs, extensive subdivision of accounts, frequently and varied adjustments to accounts; and to serve as a liaison between base organizations and Defense Finance and Accounting Service (DFAS).
Duties
1. Performs complex, nonstandard accounting transactions in the control and review of travel and transportation funds and accounts for a number of different organizations.
2. Maintains, controls, and reconciles accounting transactions and records for multiple accounts.
3. Analyzes and examines accounting data and accounts to resolve nonstandard transactions, complaints, or discrepancies.
4. Prepares reports and performs other miscellaneous technical tasks in support of accounting function(s).
5. Provides customer service for vendors, resource advisor, financial analyst, and other external and internal customers.

Qualifications
In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Clerical and Administrative Support Position.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-05, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes in-depth or broad knowledge of a body of accounting procedures and techniques to understand and work with a total accounting system for travel which involves different programs that generate a large variety of transactions. Knowledge of extensive and diverse accounting regulations, operations, and procedures governing a wide variety of types of related transactions to resolve nonstandard transactions, complaints, or discrepancies, provide advice, or perform other work that requires authoritative procedural knowledge.

EDUCATION: I have successfully completed one year of graduate level education in a field directly related which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position. NOTE: You must submit a copy of your transcripts.

COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. NOTE: You must submit a copy of transcripts.
FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-05 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-06 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. NOTE: Applicants applying as VEOA candidates who are current GS civil service employees or are prior GS civil service employees within the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
1. Knowledge of an extensive body of accounting regulations, practices, policies, and procedures to understand and work with an identifiable segment of an integrated double-entry accounting system for travel.
2. Knowledge of the Prompt Payment Act as it affects accounts.
3. Knowledge of accounting files, listings, and document control systems as well as the relationships between account sand the effect of debit and credit entries on the system of accounts.
4. Knowledge of account codes for travel related to an automated system and the requirements for processing transactions in an automated system.
5. Skill in operating a calculator and utilizing a keyboard to access or locate information through the use of a personal computer or terminal.
6. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
