About the Position:
Serve as Investigator for the United States Claims Service; responsible for conducting investigations in tort claims matters, requiring wide travel throughout the United States and its territories.The position is located at Fort Meade, MD.
Duties
Analyze pertinent laws to ensure investigative restrictions and evidence collection methods are in compliance with such laws.
Perform extensive searches for witnesses, records and other factual sources to support the Government position.
Formulate recommendations for disposition of each matter investigated.
Render decisions based on the analysis of facts and evidence.
Examine laws to provide guidance to government counsel.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Business travel is up to 25% of the time.

Specialized Experience: Your resume must describe at least one year of specialized experience which prepared you to do the work in this job. Specialized experience is defined as: apply knowledge of various investigative techniques to develop ways for securing facts and evidence; examine facts and evidence presented to ascertain the truth; utilize a wide variety of claims statutes to carry out investigations; and assist with the negotiation and/or settlement of cases. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-11).
