Duties

As a Human Resources Specialist (Benefits) at the GS-0201-12, your key responsibilities include: Provide advisory services on a variety of federal employee benefits, including retirement systems (FERS and CSRS), health and life insurance, Thrift Savings Plan (TSP), and workers' compensation. Counsel employees individually or in groups on topics such as retirement options, eligibility requirements, and flexible spending accounts. Prepare retirement estimates, assess service computation dates, and guide employees on creditable civilian/military service. Collaborate with the National Finance Center (NFC) to resolve benefits and retirement processing issues. Research and apply laws, policies, and regulations related to federal benefits, ensuring compliance and optimal service delivery. Develop and deliver training sessions and briefings on federal benefits programs, retirement systems, and policy updates. Maintain case management systems and trackers to ensure timely and accurate responses to inquiries. May serve as the program manager for the Workers' Compensation Program, providing expert advice and overseeing claims processing. IMPORTANT NOTES: This is a Permanent appointment in the competitive service with a full-time work schedule. Qualifications

All qualification requirements must be met by 11:59 pm (Eastern Time) on 12/13/2024. TIME-IN-GRADE: If you are a current career or career-conditional federal employee applying for promotion under Merit Promotion you must have completed a minimum of 52 weeks in positions at the next level lower than the position being filled. Experience: To receive credit, you must indicate the month and year as well as the average hours worked per week for each employer. Average work hours must be stated on the resume to quantify each period of work experience or that experience will not be credited toward meeting the specialized experience requirement. You must address the specific specialized experience required for each grade level of this position on your resume or application or you will be rated "Ineligible" for that grade level. GS-12: One year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service, obtained in either the private or public sector: Provide advisory guidance and assistance to employees to execute a variety of employee benefits programs which may include worker's compensation, health and life benefits, Thrift Savings Program (TSP), health and life insurance programs, health benefits open season, flexible spending accounts, temporary continuation of coverage of health insurance (TCC), etc; Provide advice and counsel to employees related to the Federal Employee Retirement System (FERS) and Civil Service Retirement System (CSRS) to include computation of estimated benefits; Experience researching and presenting findings, deliver briefings related to a variety of employee benefits programs; AND Interpret and apply laws, regulations, policies, and practices to provide advice and guidance to employees on federal benefit and retirement programs/systems. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
