This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.
About the Position: Operates LUH-72 rotary wing aircraft and associated flight simulator as an instructor pilot training and evaluating graduate and undergraduate aviators located in Fort Novosel, Alabama.
Duties
Conducts daily student briefs when directed by the commander or supervisor.
Maintain currency and proficiency in all assigned maneuvers and complete all Annual Proficiency and Readiness Test (APART) requirements IAW AR 95-1 and the Commander’s Task List (CTL).
Review and evaluation of work is based on visits to ground classes, pre-flight and post-flight debriefs, observation of flight techniques, student end of course critiques, and reports from checks and standardization flights.
Performs administrative tasks such as maintaining files and records, completing and maintaining grade slips and folders on students.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Must obtain and maintain Secret background investigation.
- Incumbent requires you possess the appropriate Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Pilot Certificates, FAA Flight Instructor Certificate and/or appropriate military rating. MUST attach a copy front and back.
- This position is subject to a pre-employment drug screening, and random testing thereafter.
- This position has been designated "Mission Essential".
- Incumbent must successfully obtain and maintain an annual Army Class II Flight Physical.
- This position requires rotating shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.

This is a TERM NTE 3 YEARS position. Position may be filled as a TERM Appointment NTE 3 YEARS. TERM appointments may be extended beyond of six (6) years, up to eight (8) years. With DoD approval, TERM appointments may be extended beyond eight (8) years.
Current permanent Federal employees (to include permanent Army employees) applying for a TERM appointment will be appointed/converted into a TERM appointment with no statuary return rights back to a permanent position.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: One year of specialized experience which includes implementing methods of instruction for student pilot in the LUH-72 Helicopter; evaluating student pilots in all levels of development in areas such as flight maneuvers, aircraft systems and limitations, instruments flight procedures, and terrain flight; and operating the LUH-72 Helicopter while instructing and evaluating the student. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12).
