The primary purpose of this position is to serve as Cybersecurity Expert with responsibility for planning/coordinating the information security, installation, testing, modifying, upgrading, operation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of unique, cloud-based, enterprise-level network systems, and an array of local and geographically separated operational business networks.
Duties
Performs role as a Cybersecurity Expert: Secures, plans, coordinates, installs, and maintains DOD wide enterprise-level software and hardware for CAF and test bed structure supporting operational infrastructure.
Performs supervisory personnel management responsibilities. Makes a periodic, comprehensive assessment and evaluation of program goals/objectives which provide a basis for long and short-range planning to enhance the organization's support capabilities.
Provides cybersecurity technical guidance and instruction to engineers and senior IT specialists.
Serves as Cybersecurity Expert. Communicates organizational strategic plan, mission, and vision to senior IT specialists working the operations center.
Maintains liaison with manufacturers, professional organizations, and master level cybersecurity specialists at other installations and services regarding available products and state-of-the-art technologies and advancements.

- Work may occasionally require travel away from the normal duty station on a military or commercial aircraft.
- Recall to duty and overtime may be a requirement of this position.
- Information Assurance Certification is a condition of employment. This position includes information assurance (IA) work as a paramount duty requirement. Failure to receive the proper IA certification may result in removal from the position.
- Per DoD 8570.01-M, the incumbent of this position must achieve the appropriate IA certification within six months of assignment of these duties. A waiver of this six month requirement may be granted per DoD 8570.01-M, C3.2.4.2 or C3.2.4.3.
- The employee may perform additional duties as assigned.
- This is a Testing Designated Position. The employee is subject to random testing for drug use.

EXPERIENCE: Must have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the following four competencies: Attention to Detail, Customer Service, Oral Communication, Problem Solving AND have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-12 or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes: Applying principles, methods, and information security practices for integrating esoteric information system components to the planning, coordinating, and administering of computer systems and the optimization of system performance; Implementing the latest advancements in secure information technology to initiate corrective or preventative action to ensure optimum performance of the system; Utilizing performance tuning tools, database management, and project management methods to optimize systems performance, troubleshoot database performance problems, and perform a wide range of systems administration functions; and Directing, integrating, and coordinating the collective efforts of a multi-disciplined staff assigned to support programs.
FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-12 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-13 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. NOTE: Applicants applying as VEOA candidates who are current GS civil service employees or are prior GS civil service employees within the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
Master of the principles, methods, and information security practices for integrating esoteric information system components sufficient to plan, coordinate, and administer computer systems, and optimize system performance.
Master of the latest advancements in secure information technology to initiate corrective or preventative action to ensure optimum performance of the system.
Master of performance tuning tools, database management, and project management methods sufficient to optimize systems performance, troubleshoot database performance problems, and perform a wide range of systems administration functions.
Expert of unique operating systems, associated devices, and the interoperability of test lab systems sufficient to install, upgrade, troubleshoot, test, and maintain those systems; to optimize the functionality and secure performance of systems; and to ensure the availability, integrity, efficiency, and reliability of servers.
Apply expert methods and information security practices for troubleshooting, recovering, adjusting, modifying, and improving systems to solve complex problems, provide support that minimizes interruptions in service to engineers, and maintain liaison with industry and other activities to provide awareness of state-of-the-art technology.
Expert in communicating orally and in writing.
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
