About the Position: This position is with the Nutrition Care Division, Production and Service Branch located at Tripler Army Medical Center, on the Island of Oahu, HI. Tripler Army Medical Center is a tobacco-free workplace. Tobacco products include, but are not limited to, smoking, smokeless tobacco, and electronic nicotine delivery devices.

Duties

Perform a full range of simple cooking by preparing and cooking items that require limited processing. Prepare all forms of hot cereals, starches, basic dessert items, and cold sandwich fillings. Broil, fry, and grill meats. Prepare and cook concentrated or dehydrated soups, sauces, and gravies, etc. Utilize a variety of cooking equipment to include but not limited to: grills, combi ovens, fryers, microwaves, blenders, meat slicers, etc. Prepare salads, salad dressings, sandwiches, special feedings and nourishments for regular and modified diets. Maintain work areas and equipment in sanitary condition.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position is designated as mission essential. The incumbent will be required to ensure continuity of Tripler Army Medical Center's operations during ALL hazard's emergency situations.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter.
  • This position may require overtime work.
  • This position requires rotating shifts 0430-1300, 1030-1300, to include evenings, nights, weekends and holidays.
  • This position has a requirement to lift up to 50 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one-year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
  • Employees assigned to a medical treatment facility are required to be screened for applicable immunizations or pre-existing immunity based on occupational risk, regardless of job series.
  • This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is subject to annual vaccination.

Work involves constant walking, standing, and frequent stooping and bending. Working Conditions: Work areas are often uncomfortably warm and noisy, e.g., noisy kitchen and dishwashing areas. Worker is exposed to the danger ofminor cuts, bruises and burns from equipment. There is danger of slipping on floor which are wet from daily mopping or where foodor beverages have been spilled. Work is performed on non-resilient tile flooring. Incumbent is exposed to extreme temperaturechanges in moving from hot kitchen areas to walk in cold storage areas.
