The ER6 Spacecraft Software Engineering Branch has an opening for a full-time position to serve as an Orion Software Function Manager. In this capacity, you will assume insight/oversight responsibility for one or more software domains and provide leadership to a team that assesses the overall safety of the Orion vehicle and its ability to perform the Design Reference Mission. This includes assessing software artifacts, process compliance, safety issues and risks.
Duties
Participates in discussions across multiple space flight domains using knowledge of the latest software development standards and practices.
Generates and applies software engineering best practices, methodologies, and tools to assess contractor products and processes.
Defines team goals, responsibilities, work scope, and priorities for the analysis and assessment of flight software design, development, integration, verification, and operation for human space vehicles.
Coordinates closely with the Program/Project to determine resource requirements, identify impacts related to resource challenges, and manage resources to accomplish team objectives.
Defines, plans, schedules, implements, and manages all work performed within the team. Oversees schedule, sets priorities, resolves conflicts, and integrates feedback from all team members.
Works closely with Program/Project management to define and plan resources, adapt work scope, and negotiate responsibilities.
Performs risk analysis of flight products and elevates concerns and solutions to appropriate levels of management.
Investigates and tracks software test and verification anomalies, monitors and analyzes results, and adapts plans and processes consistent with safety standards and regulations.
Integrates input from all available sources to develop solutions and resolve problems in response to changing conditions such as anomalies, changing resources, schedule pressures, design flaws, and process improvements.
Independently assesses software flight products, manages the collection of assessment evidence, tracks defects, and provides assessments to the Flight Software System Manager.

Qualifications
In addition to the Basic Education Requirement (in the Education section below), to qualify for this position you must meet the requirements below. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work.
NASA utilizes OPM-approved qualification and rating requirements specific for Aerospace Technology (AST) positions which recognizes NASA's unique aerospace work. The specific qualifications and minimum education requirements are further described below and within the education section of the job announcement.
To qualify for GS-13, you must have one year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 level:
Capturing, organizing, and presenting results of software product assessments to management from tracking issues to conclusions;
Performing risk analysis of flight software product assessments and schedules, and elevating concerns and providing solutions to management;
Defining and planning team activities across the software life-cycle consistent with Program/Project management expectations.

Education
Basic Education Requirement: You must have successfully completed a bachelor's degree with a major in one of the following:
a) Engineering from a college or university that has ABET accredited engineering programs
b) Physical Science, Mathematics, Life Science or other field of Science
c) Computer Science that included 30 semester hours or 45 quarter hours of course work in any combination of mathematics, statistics and computer science with at least half of those hours in mathematics and statistics courses that included differential and integral calculus; and that provided an in-depth knowledge of theoretical and practical applications of computer science, including digital computer system architecture and system software organization, the representation and transformation of information structures, and the theoretical models for such representations and transformations.
If you did not complete a qualifying bachelor's degree, you may be eligible if you have obtained a graduate degree in an AST qualifying field, as listed above.
Degrees in engineering technology are
not considered qualifying for this position.
