Who may apply: Current, permanent DFAS employees in the competitive service, eligible DoD PPP Military Spouse preference applicants and current DFAS VRA employees. The duty station of these positions will be assigned at the time of a job offer, and pay will be set in accordance with the duty station. Duties

Assists in implementing and maintaining Internal Control Program requirements to protect against waste, fraud, and abuse. Provides technical advice and assistance to reporting activities questions or inquiries on status reporting data and procedures. Verifies the accuracy, completeness, and validity of a wide variety of accounting functions/transactions including: obligations; accrued expenditures; disbursements; appropriation refunds; reimbursable orders; earnings and collections. Initiates corrective action to clear rejects caused by erroneous disbursements, input errors, missing information, improper billing, etc. Researches current accounts, historical data, source documents, etc., to develop and explain detailed information not otherwise readily available. Interprets data, identifies related transactions and determines root causes/source of problem identifying trends and workable/corrective solutions. Processes all types of accounting transactions and requests for establishment of additional accounting records.

Qualifications

One year of specialized experience equivalent in level of difficulty and responsibility to that of the next lower grade (GS-05) within the federal service, which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position, is required. Specialized experience is defined as: validating, monitoring and maintaining accounting transactions and accounting records; entering accounting data into an automated financial system to process a wide variety of account transactions; reconciling subsidiary ledgers to general ledgers for accounts; Researching discrepancies and making adjustments. Time-in-Grade: Current or former federal employees who have held a GS position in the preceding 52 weeks, must meet the time in grade requirement. Applicant must have served 52 weeks as a GS-05 or higher grade in Federal Service. You may qualify for consideration if meeting time-in grade, specialized experience, education requirement, 90 days after competitive appointment requirement, and all other qualification requirements within 30 calendar days after the closing date of the announcement, unless otherwise indicated on the announcement.

Education

GS-06 Substitution of Education for Experience: Six months of graduate education may be substituted to meet the specialized experience required when it is directly related to the work of the position being filled.
