Duties

Supervises and directs maintenance and control of ledgers, reconciliation of subsidiary ledgers to the general ledger, and preparation of required reports and analysis of accounting information. Explains accounting procedures, requirements, and directives in order to ensure the accurate, valid, and proper maintenance of accounting records. Researches complex problems covering all aspects of processing or technical accounting data. Provides accounting technicians with customer service training and technical assistance to ensure prompt, accurate, and effective service is provided to customers. Assigns/reassigns work to subordinates based on priorities, consideration of the difficulty and requirements of assignments and capabilities of subordinates.

Qualifications

This position is being filled under the Direct Hire Authority for Certain Personnel of the Department of Defense via delegated authority by the Office of the Secretary of Defense. Applicants MUST have related financial experience AND/OR a related financial degree (examples include: Finance, Accounting, Management, Actuarial Science, or related), in addition to meeting Office of Personnel Management (OPM) minimum qualification requirements. Substitution of combination of education and experience must still, in conjunction, minimally satisfy the DHA qualification requirement. One year of specialized experience equivalent in level of difficulty and responsibility to that of the next lower grade (GS-07) within the federal service, which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position, is required. Specialized experience is defined as: Reconciling accounts in accounting systems involving extensive subdivision of accounts, frequent and varied adjustments to accounts, or extensive balancing and reconciling of detailed summary accounts or resolving problems in balancing accounts and adjusting discrepancies, provide leadership to co-workers and employees on accounting support processing, policies, procedures, and functions in an expert capacity. Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. You may qualify for consideration if meeting time-in grade, specialized experience, education requirement, 90 days after competitive appointment requirement, and all other qualification requirements within 30 calendar days after the closing date of the announcement, unless otherwise indicated on the announcement.
