Duties

If selected for this position, you will join a well-respected team that is responsible for providing a variety of technical, analytical, and legal support services to the Middle District of Alabama. Maintains accurate and current records regarding incoming electronic case materials, adhering to office tracking protocols, such as by completing standardized inventory or tracking forms. Uses software applications to extract electronic case materials from storage devices or download electronic case materials from secure file transfer sites. Organizes and prepares electronic files for processing. In a developmental capacity, uses specialized software applications to perform basic processing of common electronic files. Performs quality control on processed files and addresses any identified issues. Builds and maintains document review databases for litigation team use. Loads image, native, or text files into document review databases; performs quality control on loaded files and addresses any identified issues. Generates basic electronic discovery productions (e.g., Bates-numbered images with redactions and searchable text) that comply with production specifications and deadlines, including productions from document review databases. Performs quality control on electronic discovery productions and addresses any identified issues. Prepares electronic discovery productions for transmittal to opposing parties. Uses software applications to copy electronic discovery productions to external media or file transfer systems. Provides customer support services to litigation team members relating to their use of litigation technology applications. Such services include basic troubleshooting, user assistance, and occasional basic training in response to case team needs. Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.

Requirements

  • You must be a U.S. Citizen or National
  • Initial appointment is conditioned upon a satisfactory pre-employment adjudication. This includes fingerprint, credit and tax checks, and drug testing. Continued employment is subject to a favorable adjudication of a background investigation
  • You must be registered for Selective Service, if applicable
  • If selected, you may be required to complete a one year probationary period.
  • You must meet all qualification requirements upon the closing date of this announcement.

Qualifications

GS-7: To be eligible at the GS-7 level, you must meet at least ONE of the following conditions, as defined below: Specialized Experience:At least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 level in Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as providing automated litigation assistance by preparing discovery productions, including scanning, and coding documents and creating DVDs; assisting in the use of technology to organize digital evidence; maintaining production logs by adhering to office protocol; and provides technical support such as duplicating documents and marking exhibits. OR Education:One of the following types of education in a related field: one full year of graduate level education in related field (e.g., Criminal Justice, Paralegal Sciences, Law) leading to a Master's degree or higher; or a completed Bachelor's Degree with Superior Academic Achievement (see definition in the "Education Section" of this vacancy announcement). Education must be obtained in an accredited college or university and must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the duties of the position. OR Combination of Specialized Experience and Education:A combination of specialized experience and graduate education which when combined equal 100% of the requirements. Interagency Career Transition Assistance Plan (ICTAP)- The ICTAP provides eligible displaced Federal competitive service employees with selection priority over other candidates for competitive service vacancies.
