Duties

If selected for this position, you will join a well-respected team that is responsible for actively supports civil and/or criminal litigation teams by performing routine litigation support tasks necessary to prepare or manage electronic discovery, evidence, exhibits, and other electronically stored information relevant to investigations and casework, using a variety of methods and software applications. Typical work assignments will include: Performs routine litigation support tasks necessary to process common electronically stored information (e.9., PDF files, Word documents, Excel spreadsheets, PowerPoint files, emails, etc.) and prepare it for review or production by the litigation team. Uses specialized software applications (e.g., processing software) to perform processing tasks and meet the technical needs of criminal and civil litigation teams. Consults with litigation team members (e.g., attorneys, investigators, legal support staff) to understand case needs and technical requirements. Develops a plan for processing electronic files consistent with those requirements. Performs routine litigation support tasks relating to litigation teams' review of common electronically stored information. Uses specialized software applications (e.9., document review databases) to perform these tasks. Builds and maintains document review databases for litigation team use. Loads image, native, or text files into document review databases; performs quality control on loaded files and addresses any identified issues. Regularly communicates with litigation team members about the status of litigation support projects (e.9., processing, production preparation, etc.) and the time and resources needed to complete projects. Works with litigation team members to understand case presentation needs. Suggests methods or software applications for presenting evidence or producing demonstrative exhibits. Creates electronic versions of exhibits for court filings, depositions, hearings, or trials. Assists with the creation of basic demonstrative exhibits. Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.

Requirements

  • You must be a U.S. Citizen or National.
  • Initial appointment is conditioned upon a satisfactory pre-employment adjudication. This includes fingerprint, credit and tax checks, and drug testing. Continued employment is subject to a favorable adjudication of a background investigation.
  • You must be registered for Selective Service, if applicable.
  • If selected, you may be required to complete a one year probationary period.
  • Time-in-Grade: Federal employees must meet time-in-grade requirements within 30 days after the closing date of this announcement.
  • You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days after the closing date of this announcement and before placement in the position.

Qualifications

GS-09: To be eligible at the GS-9 level, you must meet at least ONE of the following conditions, as defined below: Specialized Experience, Education, OR a Combination of Education and Experience. Specialized experience: One full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-7 level. Specialized experience is defined as performing the following types of duties: Preparing and managing discovery, evidence, exhibits and casework. Performing routine and recurring litigation support assignments (e.g., PDF files, Word documents, Excel spreadsheets, PowerPoint files, emails, etc.). Providing assistance in litigation support and preparing a variety of legal related documents. OR Education: Applicants may also qualify based on education. To qualify for the GS-9 level, applicants must have one of the following types of education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B. or J.D., if related. OR Combining Education and Experience: Combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and experience may be used to meet total qualification requirements for the grade levels specified in the table, and may be computed by first determining the applicant's total qualifying experience as a percentage of the experience required for the grade level; then determining the applicant's education as a percentage of the education required for the grade level; and then adding the two percentages. The total percentages must equal at least 100 percent to qualify an applicant for that grade level. Interagency Career Transition Assistance Plan (ICTAP)- The ICTAP provides eligible displaced Federal competitive service employees with selection priority over other candidates for competitive service vacancies.
