This position is located at the Whiteriver Service Unit, Division of Nursing Service, Surgical Services. The unit for which the incumbent is responsible is the Ambulatory Surgery department and CSR (Central Sterilization and Reprocessing).These departments are specialty units within the Whiteriver Service Unit. This position is located in Whiteriver, AZ.
Duties
Serves as the Assistant Supervisory Nurse (ASCN), exercising specific responsibility to assure that care is provided in compliance with various regulatory and professional agencies.
Assures the accomplishment of work planning, work direction and work performance evaluation.
The ASCN provides leadership, direction and technical expertise in the planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of delivery of nursing, provider, patient business and support services for the department.
Conducts extensive preoperative nursing assessment/exam and review of patient history prior to day of surgery and provides patient education on expected plan of care.
Initiates treatments, medications, emergency and resuscitative measures based on appropriate utilization of physicians' pre and post-op orders, standing orders, post anesthesia, ACLS and PALS, and Malignant Hyperthermia protocols.
Provides specialized knowledge and skills to meet the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of patients undergoing elective and emergent surgical procedures

Qualifications

BASIC REQUIREMENT(S):
Note: Employees currently assigned to positions in this occupational series as of September 2017 will be considered to have met the basic requirements for the position occupied.
Education: A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.
Licensure: For all grade levels and positions, applicants must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination. In addition, they must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
Experience: The work experience must have equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. At the GS-09 and above grade level, many positions may require experience in a specialty area of nursing.
In addition to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, GS-11:Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of professional nursing experience (equivalent to the GS-9 grade level) AND possession of a diploma, associate degree, or bachelor's degree in Nursing from a professional nursing program. Examples Include: Provide leadership, direction, and technical expertise in the planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of the delivery of nursing services for the benefit and provision of safe comprehensive care in the ambulatory surgery services department.
OR
Successfully completed a PhD or equivalent doctoral degree from a professional nursing educational program or related medical science field.
