The New Mexico VA Health Care System is seeking a Supply Technician assigned to the Property Management Division. The primary purpose of this position is to ensure that non-expandable (NX) supplies and materials are distributed to areas serviced by Supply Chain Management (SCM).
Duties
Duties include but not limited to:
Reviews existing stock and manufactures' catalogs. manuals and listing to obtain substitute or interchangeable items to supply in lieu of items questioned.
Communicates with customers and vendors to obtain information regarding availability and functionality of non-expandable equipment and supplies.
Provides guidance to customers on identification of material through research of original equipment manufacturers part catalog for part numbers, descriptions, and size of parts needed.
Processes applicable catalog update transactions in accordance with current published procedures.
Periodically, reviews assigned manufacturers code and part numbers for continued validity and takes necessary action to update, delete, or dispose of in accordance with published guidelines.
Interacts with clinical and administrative customers to ensure issues and needs are identified and either resolved or escalated to supervisors or Inventory Management Specialists as needed.
Communicates to the lead or supervisor any concerns related to supplies, equipment and procedures, providing information as needed orally or in writing regarding customer or external stakeholder issues, general telephone inquiries and visitor referrals.
Coordinates drop-off of new or transferred equipment and pick up of turn in equipment; scanner pick up and drop off for annual Electronic Inventory Listing (EIL) inventory; and delivery times and area with contractors and vendors with other VA activities, contractors or manufacturers through personal transactions.
Reviews numerous computer output listings in the performance of research and identification of supplies as well as prepares system inquires and interpret the responses.
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday; 8:00am-4:30pm
Telework: VA supports the use of telework as a way to help attract and retain talented individuals in public service, increase worker productivity, and better prepare the agency to operate during emergencies. Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 12/06/2024.
Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-05 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-04. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment.
You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below:
Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-4 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: providing equipment and material to clinical and/or administrative areas; scanning, bar-coding, receiving, storing, and distributing equipment and related material; utilizing an automated system to maintain equipment records; and answering customer questions regarding non-expandable equipment and materials. OR,
Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have successfully completed 4 years of education above high school. OR,
Combination: Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level. You must have an combination of specialized experience and education as described above that demonstrates my ability to perform the duties of this position.

Physical Requirements: The work requires standing and walking during the entire workday, and frequent reaching, benching and lifting of supply packages (occasionally weighing as much as 50 pounds). Work requires pushing loaded carts of medical supplies (weighing in excess of 100+ pounds). With proper assistance, moves heavier items' weighing over 40 pounds.
