The Program Support Assistant assigned to the Connected Care Department at the James J. Peters VAMC is under the direct supervision of the Connected Care Facility Telehealth Coordinator/Nurse Manager. This is a pivotal position, where the incumbent is responsible for representing the medical center to Veterans, patients, family members of Veterans, and other medical center providers both at the VA and in the community. T

Duties

This position is located at the James J. Peters VA Medical Center in Bronx, NY. The Program Support Assistant performs various administrative and clerical duties in support of the service. Major duties include but are not limited to: Coordinates and provides administrative support; Schedules and manages appointments; Receives visitors and phone calls both for the service and the service Chief; Composes and prepares correspondence, forms, letters, memos, reports, computer-related data, specifications, and similar material; Coordinates meetings; Composes and distributes meeting minutes; Maintains office supplies and equipment; Serves as the timekeeper for the service; Receives and reviews all incoming correspondence; and Performs other related duties as assigned. Work Schedule: Full Time, Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 4:30pm Telework: This is not a telework position. Virtual: This is not a virtual position. Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 12/06/2024. Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS 6 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS 5. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment. You may qualify based on your experience as described below: To qualify for this position at the GS-6 level, applicants must meet the following: Specialized Experience: You must have at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-5) in Federal Service, that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of a Program Support Assistant (Office Automation), GS-6 position, and that is typically in or related to the work of this position. Specialized experience includes: performing a full range of administrative support for an office; receiving visitors and phone calls; reviewing all incoming and outgoing correspondence; scheduling meetings; and utilizing software such as Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint). You will be rated on the following Competencies for this position: ClericalCommunicationsComputer SkillsManages and Organizes Information Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Physical Requirements: The work is sedentary. Typically, the person in this position may sit comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking, standing, bending and carrying of light items like papers or books. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.
