This position functions as a Program Support Assistant in the Geriatric Research Education Clinical Center (GRECC), James J. Peters VA Medical Center, which is a large, complex, diversified, university affiliated, general medical and surgical, teaching health care facility.

Duties

Duties may include but are not limited to: Researches and/or analyzes problems, issues, or program requirements; Researches and/or analyzes stable or simple administrative issues; Determines pertinent issues and collects relevant information from a variety of sources; Reviews information and applies standard analytical techniques; Assists in planning and/or accomplishing special projects; Uses standard approaches to perform a variety of duties related to special projects involving administrative or support issues; Conducts extensive research and compilation of data from diverse sources; Extracts and assembles information, conducts analysis and develops reports or presentations; Research, analyze, and assists in preparing written reports including the GRECC Annual Report for the Education and Evaluation Division; Research, analyze, and assists in preparing presentations including PowerPoint presentations for national conferences, such as AGS, as well as developing posters for national conferences; Serves as the VA Office of Rural Health funded Rural Health Training & Education Initiative (RHTI) Program Support Assistant; Assists the Associate Director/Education and RHTI Program Manager in developing program sustainment approaches, communicating with trainees, faculty, and leadership; Prepares or coordinates the preparation of reports and correspondence for the Associate Director and RHTI Manager and other staff members that are of a confidential nature, including word processing and spread sheet applications; Receives requests for information material concerning the organization that can be assembled from the record; Assembles and summarizes information from files and documents in the office or other available sources; Prepares non-recurring and special reports (letters for the supervisor's signature for VA Headquarters and/or Congressional inquiries); Receives telephone calls and personal visitors, including physicians, high level administrators, patients, etc.; Performs other related duties as assigned Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:30am - 5:00pm Telework: VA supports the use of telework as a way to help attract and retain talented individuals in public service, increase worker productivity, and better prepare the agency to operate during emergencies. This position may be authorized for telework on an Ad Hoc basis. Telework eligibility will be discussed during the interview process. Virtual: This is not a virtual position. Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 02/12/2024. You may qualify based on your experience as described below: Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience (equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-6 in federal service); experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSA's) and other characteristics to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled, in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Specialized experience includes: providing administrative and technical support for the management of various programs; Skill in applying analytical and evaluative techniques to the identification, consideration, and resolution of issues or problems of a procedural or factual nature; ability to use qualitative and quantitative analytical techniques; knowledge of gerontology and geriatrics education learning and dissemination methods; maintaining databases and utilizing various software programs; ability to operate a personal computer and various office automation software programs, such as word processing, spreadsheets, databases, and presentations; typing a variety of correspondence; and skill in communicating with a variety of personnel, both administrative and clinics. NOTE: Such experience MUST be well represented in resume. Failure to do so will results in a Non-Qualification Determination. Preferred Experience: Experience in database and report management skills including but not limited to Microsoft Excel and Access programs; financial experience in budget administration; management skills in project coordination; and technical work support of management and program analysis. You will be rated on the following Competencies for this position: ClericalCommunicationsComputer SkillsManages and Organizes Information Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Physical Requirements: The work is primarily sedentary. Occasional fatigue may be experienced when working with automated equipment.
