The primary purpose of this position, HAZARDOUS MATERIALS HANDLING INSPECTOR LEADER WL-6511-11 is to lead three or more workers to accomplish trades and/or labor work on a substantially full time and continuing basis. Ensure unit maintenance plans are accomplished for the flight. Prepare and maintain munition and explosive items for use on Minuteman Rocket Motors.
Duties
Lead a team of trades and/or labor workers.
Perform nonsupervisory munitions surveillance work that is usually of the same kind and level as members of the work crew led.
Prioritize, assign, and oversee explosive operations and managerial functions across the full spectrum of Munitions activities.
Administer critically enforced mandated programs within the Missile Maintenance Group designed to uphold safety, security, and accountability of personnel and critical resources.

- This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968. An individual convicted of a qualifying crime of domestic violence may not perform the duties of this position.
- This is a Mission Essential position performing a Mission Critical Function which must continue uninterrupted after the occurrence of an emergency and continued through full resumption of all functions. IAW, DoD 3020-42, Defense Continuity Programs.
Qualifications
In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C.
QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-6500 Ammunition, Explosive, And Toxic Materials Work Family. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:The work requires frequent standing, bending, stooping, climbing, stretching, and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Some work is occasionally performed in a sitting position while making repairs at a workbench or performing surveillance inspections. The work requires lifting, pushing, pulling, and carrying various sizes and shapes of components and parts weighing up to 50-85 pounds. Indoor physical demands typically include strain on the eyesight or fatigue of the wrists due to extensive periods of computer usage.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work is performed both inside shop/office areas and outside in industrial areas that are often noisy and subject to the effects of local weather. There is potential exposure to cuts, bruises, shocks, burns, and injury from possible ruptured lines, explosions, or dropped objects during testing, surveillance, or movement. Must occasionally wear face masks and protective clothing when there is a possibility of exposure to toxic chemicals and work in close proximity to various explosives and devices.
