The primary purpose of this position, MISSILE TOXIC MATERIALS HANDLING INSPECTOR, WG-6511-11, is to perform quality inspections and use specialized munitions experience and intensive product inspection techniques to ensure various munitions components and devices comply with technical requirements.

Duties

Perform technical munitions inspections, handling, storage, turn in, and issue requirements for ordnance assets such as explosive linear and longitudinal charges, detonators, delay boosters, arm and disarm switches, skirt removers, mechanical safety and arming devices, missile motor propellant sample blocks, and missile components in support of major programs. Perform specialized/complex inspection procedures to verify quality of ordnance components acquired and/or maintained by the Federal Government. Perform intensive product inspections on multiple Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) and nuclear weapons Related Materiel (NWRM) components. Crew chief operations involving personnel directly exposed to and involved in handling various types of ordnance/explosives.

  • PHYSICAL: THIS POSITION REQUIRES A PRE-EMPLOYMENT PHYSICAL
  • IAW AFI 21-201, incumbent must complete the AETC Munitions Inspection Course or MAJCOM Munitions Inspection Seminar
  • The work will require the incumbent to operate government vehicles. An appropriate, valid driver's license will be required for the position
  • The incumbent must have normal color vision and depth perception
  • The incumbent must not have any record of emotional instability
  • The incumbent will maintain all necessary Computer Based Training (CBT) requirements

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C. QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-6500 AMMUNITION, EXPLOSIVE, AND TOXIC MATERIALS WORK FAMILY. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. The screen out element for this position is: Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision. JOB ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, Repair etc. Technical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic) Use of Measuring Instruments Ability To Interpret Instructions, Specifications, etc. (other than blueprints) Knowledge of Materials Dexterity and Safety PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The work requires moderate to heavy lifting when moving material by hand or hand truck; walking and standing for prolonged periods of time; and bending, stooping, and pushing and pulling heavy material. The munitions inspection work may require working on hard surfaces and lifting and carrying items weighting 25 pounds or less without assistance. Utilizes weightlifting equipment or human assistance in handling items in excess of 25 pounds. WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work is performed inside in a warehouse environment and outside in containment areas on year-round basis. Subject to cuts, bruises, abrasions, scrapes, injury from equipment in moving or handling packaged and unpackaged munitions and equipment, and hazards involved in working in proximity to moving equipment such as forklifts, trucks, and cranes. For Explosives Work Inspector duties, incumbent may be subject to hot, damp, cold, drafty, or poorly lighted areas; exposed to dust, dirt, grease, solvents, and high noise areas in a mechanical work area; or explosive hazards while working in the munition's storage area. May be required to wear protective clothing such as, steel-toed shoes, leather gloves, face shields, hearing protection, and protective eye wear. When handling packaged and unpackaged munitions items, protective equipment is provided.
