The primary purpose of this position, MISSILE TOXIC MATERIALS HANDLING INSPECTOR, WG-6511-11, is to perform quality inspections and use specialized munitions experience and intensive product inspection techniques to ensure various munitions components and devices comply with technical requirements.

Duties

Perform technical munitions inspections on explosives such as but not limited to bombs, pyrotechnic flares, demolition munitions, grenades, missiles and missile components, life support items, and over 150 types of aircraft Cartridge Actuated Devices (CAD) and Propellant Actuated Devices (PAD). Perform specialized/complex inspection procedures to verify quality of munitions/explosive components acquired and/or maintained by the Federal Government. Perform intensive product inspections on multiple Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) and Nuclear Weapons Related Material (NWRM) components. Crew-chief operations involving personnel directly exposed to and involved in handling various types of explosives. Ensures safe operations in team environments, verifies and directs personnel involved in explosive operations on the qualification to perform tasks as prescribed by applicable directives. Train Munitions Inspectors and instruct to the go/no-go level relative to the proficiency codes identified in the Munitions Career Field Education and Training Plan (CFETP) and the Air Force Qualification Training Package (AFQTP) Munitions Inspector Qualification and Certification Guide.

• This is a drug testing designated position. The incumbent is subject to random testing for drug use.
• IAW AFI 21-201, employees must complete the AETC Munitions Inspection Course or MAJCOM Munitions Inspection Seminar.
• The work will require the employee to operate government vehicles. An appropriate, valid driver's license will be required for the position.

• The employee will maintain all necessary Computer Based Training (CBT) requirements.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C. QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-6500 AMMUNITION, EXPLOSIVE, AND TOXIC MATERIALS WORK FAMILY. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The work requires moderate to heavy lifting when moving material by hand or hand truck; walking and standing for prolonged periods of time; and bending, stooping, and pushing and pulling heavy material. The munitions inspection work may require working on hard surfaces and lifting and carrying weights up to 40 pounds. May handle heavier items with weight lifting equipment or with assistance from other workers. WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed inside in a warehouse environment and outside in containment areas on year-round basis. Subject to cuts, bruises, abrasions, scrapes, injury from equipment in moving or handling packaged and unpackaged munitions and equipment, and hazards involved in working in proximity to moving equipment such as fork lifts, trucks, and cranes. For Explosives Work Inspector duties, employee may be subject to hot, damp, cold, drafty, or poorly lighted areas; exposed to dust, dirt, grease, solvents, and high noise areas in a mechanical work area; or, explosive hazards while working in the munitions storage area. May be required to wear protective clothing such as, steel-toed shoes, leather gloves, face shields, hearing protection, and protective eye wear. When handling packaged and unpackaged munitions items, protective equipment is provided.
