The Deputy Provost will formulate and implement broad policy and operational guidance affecting curriculum reviews, integration, program assessment, advisory boards, faculty affairs, and institutional research. The incumbent will oversee significant Academic Affairs educational and assessment programs, and serve as an expert on degree programs, regional accreditation, and specialized accreditations and provide advice on resource management functions.
Duties
Supervisory: Recruit, select, develop, and lead a diverse workforce with the necessary skills, backgrounds, and qualifications to achieve AU's educational goals. Regularly select, supervise, set performance standards for, and evaluate high-level civilian professionals responsible for the overall academic administration of AU educational programs. Demonstrate leadership in achieving mission/human relations objectives, personnel, and management activities.
Academic Program Oversight: Design and implement program strategies to achieve AU's academic goals while maintaining degree-granting authority and regional/specialized accreditation. Direct AU's Curriculum Program Review process to establish a common frame of reference for assessing educational program quality across the university. Develop an expansive professional network and serve as AU's point of contact with national and regional education organizations, AF Major Commands, other DoD components with comparable education systems, and local AU organizational units. Serve as the point of contact with congressional staffs on matters related to degree-granting authority legislation. Maintain routine contact with Higher Headquarters staff (i.e., Air Staff, Joint Staff, OSD) US Department of Education, and regional accrediting bodies.
Program and Institutional Assessment: Develops, coordinates, and implements Air Force programs and policies pertaining to comprehensive assessment of AU education programs, including Professional Military Education (PME), Professional Continuing Education (PCE), and Graduate Education programs. Regularly analyzes and evaluates current AF education programs for evidence of ongoing continuous improvement and achievement of programs outcomes.
Advisory Board Management: Advises senior leaders on advisory board recruitment, governance of AU, and programs for review by the governing boards. Consistently directs multi-school participation in coordinates activities of the AU Board of Visitors (BOV) composed of distinguished leaders from academia, industry, and government service. Facilitates prudent board engagement to solicit appropriate counsel from the BOV on AU educational programs. Serve as the Alternate Designated Federal Officer (DFO) for AU advisory boards.
Advancing Faculty Excellence: Works closely with school leadership to foster an environment of academic excellence and collaboration.

Qualifications
Maintain broad knowledge of all AU programs and of current projects.
Knowledge of educational research and statistics, especially as applied to institutional research.
Knowledge of regional accreditation requirements and practices.
Skill in applying analytical and evaluative techniques to the identification, consideration, and resolution of issues or problems concerning efficiency and effectiveness in academic programs.
Ability to formulate and execute organizational management strategies.
Ability to supervise the work of a high-level group of civil service professionals.
Ability to coordinate the work of a diverse group of individuals employed by others (e.g., AU schools and centers, other DoD educational institutions, and HHQ Knowledge of institutional and specialized accreditation compliance and best practices.
The ability to interpret higher level policy and integrate requirements.
The ability to deal with sensitive issues in a professional manner.
The ability to communicate and interact with general officers, senior executive civilians, college presidents, accreditation representatives, and corporate CEOs.
Knowledge of military organizations, operations and culture.
Knowledge of collegiate-level/higher education student information systems.
