You will serve as a LEAD FIREFIGHTER (BLS/HAZMAT OPS) in the NAVY FIRE AND EMERGENCY SERVICES of NAVAL AIR FACILITY EL CENTRO.

Duties

You will respond to medical emergencies (e.g., sudden illness, accidental injuries, childbirth) to provide immediate medical attention and treatment. You will collaborate with fire fighter personnel to ensure emergency responses (e.g., fire suppression, injured victims, hazardous spill cleanup) are assigned. You will direct the deployment and use of firefighting equipment and personnel on the scene of emergencies. You will identify personal protective equipment and control equipment for inclusion in planning an initial response. You will assign work to junior firefighters or employees based on priorities, requirements, and capabilities.

  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.

  • This is a bargaining unit position.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver's license.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • This position is considered Key/Emergency-Essential. You will be required to provide immediate and continuing support to ensure the success of combat operations or the availability of combat-essential systems.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of Specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Utilizing firefighting techniques for fire hazards peculiar to airfields such as aircraft, special weapons, and hazardous materials; 2) Working with firefighting equipment, including fire alarm systems, foam generators, boom and ground sweep nozzles using correct techniques and procedures; 3) Driving/operating a variety of firefighting vehicles, apparatuses, or equipment; and 4) Performing emergency and medical procedures. NOTE: This experience must be supported by your resume. This position requires the incumbent to possess the following certifications: Firefighter I & Firefighter II, Fire Officer I, Fire Inspector I, Fire Instructor I, Airport Firefighter, Hazmat Operations, Driver Operator Pumper, Driver-Operator for Airport Rescue Firefighting, Driver-Operator for Aerial vehicles and National Registry EMT - Basic Life Support (NREMT-B). These certifications must have been awarded by National Registry, DoD, IFSAC or ProBoard to meet the requirement. If you do not possess all of the above certifications, you will be rated ineligible.
