You will serve as a SUPERVISORY FIREFIGHTER in the Navy Fire & Emergency Services (F&ES) DEPARTMENT of NAVAL AIR FACILITY EL CENTRO.
Duties
You will manage operating expenditures (e.g., staffing requirements, new or replacement of equipment, budget) for a fire department.
You will advise senior leaders of the progress of a fire protection and fire prevention training program.
You will monitor a fire department's workload to ensure goals are met.
You will investigate fires to determine cause and origin of fire (e.g., due to poor housekeeping, unsafe installations, improper materials, unsafe industrial
practices, arson).

- You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination and then an annual occupational health examination thereafter, as a condition of employment.

- You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
- Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
- Supervisors in the executive branch have a heightened personal responsibility for advancing government ethics. You will be required to review the 14 General Principles of Ethical Conduct at 5 CFR 2635.101.
- The employee is required to work Monday thru Friday with one shift 24 hours a week. Employee may be required to adjust work schedule which includes nights, weekends, holidays, and mandatory overtime and recall.
- This is a Mission Essential position. You will be required to ensure organization or facility continuity of operations and/or completion of tasks that are considered essential to the mission designated by a local or command decision.
Qualifications
GS-12:
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of Specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector:) Managing and directing fire department operations involving structural, shipboard, crash/rescue, wildland, as well as operations involving toxic materials, Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD), nuclear, and conventional ordnance; 2) Utilizing the latest technical developments in fire prevention and protection to achieve and maintain operational readiness with minimal manpower to accomplish the overall fire protection mission; 3) Evaluating the technical adequacy of all fire protection and life safety features; and 4) Conducting investigations of fires to determine cause; 5) Experience performing supervisory duties such as managing, organizing, directing, providing technical leadership and guidance, assigning and prioritizing work, position management, evaluating work performance of subordinates and resolving disciplinary issues.
GS-11:
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of Specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-10 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector: 1) Implementing and supervising the functions of an effective fire prevention program through inspections, training, and enforcement of fire regulations; 2) Leading multi-company and/or multi-jurisdictional and interdisciplinary operations from incident/event operations centers; 3) Directing/deploying firefighting personnel and equipment during emergencies and non-emergency situations in accordance with established regulations; 4) Presenting information and analysis, in person and in writing to support budget management, internal relationships, external relationships; 5) Experience performing supervisory duties such as managing, organizing, directing, providing technical leadership and guidance, assigning and prioritizing work, position management, evaluating work performance of subordinates and resolving disciplinary issues.
GS-12 CERTIFICATIONS:
This position requires the incumbent to possess the following certifications for this position: Fire Officer IV, Fire Officer III (includes Fire Officer I, II), Fire Instructor II (includes Fire Instructor I), Fire Inspector II (includes Fire Inspector I), HAZMAT Incident Commander (includes Hazmat Awareness, Hazmat Operations), Airport Fire Fighter (includes Firefighter I, II) and NREMT-National Registry Emergency Medical Technician. These certifications must have been awarded by DoD, IFSAC or ProBoard to meet the requirement. If you do not possess all of the above certifications and you have not attached a copy of your transcript or certifications, you will be rated ineligible.
GS-11 CERTIFICATIONS:
