You will serve as a SUPERVISORY FIREFIGHTER in the FIRE DEPARTMENT, REGIONAL PUBLIC SAFETY OFFICE of NAVAL AIR FACILITY EL CENTRO.

Duties

You will administer a fire prevention program for an organization. You will analyze the environment (e.g., relationship between fuels, topography, wind, humidity) in the fire environment to ensure use of the correct firefighting apparatus. You will identify training requirements to correct an employee's performance. You will brief senior leaders or other employees on matters on firefighting actives, personnel, and equipment.

  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver’s license.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • This position is considered Key/Emergency-Essential. You will be required to provide immediate and continuing support to ensure the success of combat operations or the availability of combat-essential systems.
  • Supervisors in the executive branch have a heightened personal responsibility for advancing government ethics. You will be required to review the 14 General Principles of Ethical Conduct at 5 CFR 2635.101.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of Specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Planning and directing fire protection, fire prevention, and Emergency Medical Services programs; 2) Applying knowledge of hazardous materials, emergency response control, and abatement procedures to reduce/prevent/eliminate negative environmental impact to property, land and public waterways; 3)Implementing knowledge of supply procurement procedures in order to evaluate and justify supply and equipment requirements; 4) Conducting basic statistical analysis processes pertaining to budgetary requirements, manpower, and emergency response functions to ensure efficiencies/ economies of the organizational mission requirements; and 5)Performing supervisory duties such as managing, organizing, directing, providing technical leadership and guidance, assigning and prioritizing work, position management, evaluating work performance of subordinates and resolving disciplinary issues. ****This position requires the incumbent to possess the following certifications: Fire Officer IV, Fire Inspector II, Fire Instructor II, HAZMAT Incident Commander, Airport Firefighter and National Registry Emergency Medical Technician (NREMT). These certifications must have been awarded by DoD, IFSAC or ProBoard to meet the requirement.
