This position is located at Crow/Northern Cheyenne IHS, in Crow Agency, MT and functions as a Medical Support Assistant. The purpose of this position is to provide the clerical and clinical supportive services to health care providers and to facilitate and expedite direct patient care services.
Duties
Interviews patient to obtain pertinent patient registration information, i.e. demographic and insurance information and authorization to enable the Business Office to bill for health care services provided from all alternative resources, including the non-beneficiary services.
Assists patients in the Emergency Department in completing new or updated forms for the RPMS Patient Registration System.
Performs a variety of receptionist duties such as meeting and greeting patients and visitors, registering patients, receiving and making telephone calls, transferring calls to appropriate staff; escorts patients and/or family members.
Performs a variety of record keeping, maintains administrative reports, reviews patient records for compliance, initiates administrative related forms for patient's signature, and orients new staff.

BASIC REQUIREMENT(S):
General Schedule Qualification Standards
In addition to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
GS-04: One (1) year of general experience OR, successfully completed two (2) years of education above the high school level.
GS-05: One (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-4 grade level OR four (4) years above the high school level.
General Experience: Progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled.
Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks:
Examples of specialized experience at the GS-05 level: Assisting patients in completing forms and determining their status for eligibility for coverage, interviewing patients to obtain pertinent patient registration information, i.e., demographic and insurance information, initiating or retrieving health records, enter information into patient registration systems, ensuring accuracy for all required forms, schedule appointments, respond to inquiries and requests through telephone, correspondence and personal visits, record keeping, maintain record of confidentially and safeguard patient information, use electronic systems to provide clerical office support. OR, successfully completed 4 years of education above the high school level.

Time In Grade
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
