This position is located in the Branch of Outpatient Nursing Services, Division of Nursing Services at the Crow Service Unit, and functions as a ward clerk in the Outpatient, with occasional assignments to other clinic areas as needed.
The purpose of this position is to provide the clerical and supportive services to health care providers and to facilitate and expedite direct patient care services.
Duties
Perform a variety of receptionist duties such as receives patients, visitors, and telephone calls; refers calls to appropriate staff; escorts patients into treatment areas, as needed; refer emergencies and walk-ins for treatment; answer routine medical, personnel, and administrative inquiries; and confirm eligibility; maintains patient logs.
Maintain record confidentiality and safeguard medical information, adhering to the Rules and Regulation of the Privacy act of 1974.
Verifies patients' eligibility for Medicaid using State Medical Assistance System.
Collects and copies third party health cards and explains the billing process to the patients.
Qualifications
To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Examples of such experience includes experience in a medical office setting with responsibility for scheduling appointments for services, working with patient registration and patient related data management computer system. Experience should also include having worked with patient medical records.

4 years of education above the high school level (transcripts must be provided).
Or
A combination of education and experience that when combined fully meet the minimum qualifications for this position. Only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify an applicant for GS-05grade level (transcripts must be provided).

Time In Grade
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.
