This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Shortage Category and/or Critical Need Positions to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.
About the Position: The position is to perform law enforcement work to maintain law and order, preserve the peace, protect life and civil rights, detect and investigate crimes, arrest or apprehend violators, and perform patrols within the jurisdiction of the military installation.
Duties
Exercise search and arrest authority, detain witnesses, apprehend suspects, and interview witnesses.
Conduct long and short-term investigations on criminal cases.
Conduct law enforcement patrols using specialized equipment including the use of firearms.
Operate National Crime Information Center terminal in accordance with federal and state laws.
Respond to and investigate emergency calls, complaints, and other calls for service.
Requirements
- This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
- Incumbent must be able to successfully pass training, certification and qualification requirements related to law enforcement work functions as prescribed by policy, regulations or statutes.
- This position is subject to the provisions of the Domestic Violence Offender Gun Ban commonly referred to as the Lautenberg Amendment.
- A pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter is required to ensure the continued, required level of physical and mental health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
- This position is subject to a pre-employment drug screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
- Incumbent must pass, within 90 days of being hired and annually thereafter, a physical agility test IAW AR 190-56, Chapter 2.
- This position is covered by the Individual Reliability Program (IRP) and has been designated by the Department of Army as critical to the national or internal security.
- The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles
- This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations. Employee shifts are rotated on a regularly scheduled basis.
- This position has been designated Mission Essential. In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
- This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 5% of the time.
- The work requires extended periods of physical exertion derived from such activities as running, walking, and occasionally lifting, pushing and/or carrying items weighing 60 pounds or more.
- Position requires the incumbent to successfully graduate from the United States Army Civilian Police Academy within 12 months of hire date unless grandfathered or exempt.
- This position requires the employee to use personal protective equipment provided by the employer.
- Incumbent is subject to possible civil action due to improper exercises of authority or injudicious use of force in the apprehension or detention of individuals.

Specialized Experience required: One year of specialized experience which includes applying law enforcement laws and regulations to police operations, practices and techniques; assisting with law enforcement investigations; and responsibility for maintaining order and protecting life and property. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06)
Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-06).
Education
FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
