About the Position: This position is a DOD Cyber Excepted Service (CES) personnel system position in the Excepted Service under 10 USC 1599f. Employees occupying CES positions are in the Excepted Service and must adhere to U.S. Code, Title 10, as well as Department of Defense Instruction 1400.25.
This position is with the 7th Signal Command, 106th Signal Brigade located in Fort Carson, CO.
Duties
Ensure optimum technical assistance and operational performance of the RNEC’s network infrastructures.
Serve as a SME in network design, technical development, and implementation of the evolving Enterprise Network (EN) systems, which support the RNEC Installation Campus Area Network (ICAN).
Creates and maintains documentation as it relates to RNEC’s Enterprise Network (EN) Architecture network design, network configuration.
Conducts research on network products, equipment, services, protocols, and standards to remain abreast of developments in the networking industry.
Manages all Security Technical Implementation Guidelines (STIGs) to existing and newly deployed network equipment.
Provide RNEC operational guidance and technical assistance to organizational elements throughout the enterprise, to include LNEC in the AOR enterprise network, in connection with network infrastructure.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Three year trial/probationary period may be required.
- The incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain at a minimum a Secret security clearance. Failure to do so may result in separation for the efficiency of the Federal Service.
- This position requires the employee to occasionally travel (in the most expedient manner) away from the normal duty station. Use Government regulations for all official travel. 10%
- The employee may be required to work overtime.
- The employee may be required to work other than normal duty hours, which may include evenings, weekends, and/or holidays.
- Call back and emergency duty are regular requirements of this position.
- The employee may be required to work shift work if the organization moves to a 24/7 operation.
- The employee may be required to remain on duty or report for duty during national emergency, severe weather or other installation closings.
- Obtain and maintain a valid motor vehicle driver’s license.
- Employee may be required to use a cellular telephone and always maintain a working telephone.
- This is an Information Assurance Workforce Improvement Program position. Incumbent (or Selectee) is required to satisfactorily complete the appropriate training and obtain the required certification/recertification
- for this position as outlined in the DoD Publication 8570.01M. Personnel assigned to this position must obtain the appropriate certification within 6 months of being assigned. Failure to satisfactorily obtain and/or
- maintain updated certifications IAW publication listed are grounds for termination.

To qualify based on your experience, your resume must describe one-year specialized experience that demonstrates the possession of knowledge, skills, abilities, and competencies necessary for immediate success in the position. Such experience is typically in or directly related to the work of the position to be filled.
Specialized experience would be demonstrated by: Providing expert level technical and operational understanding of networking components and technologies such as routers, switches, wireless and cryptographic equipment; Analyzing and managing network infrastructure; Providing guidance and expertise on network diagnostics; Evaluating, designing, and sustaining all data communication operations and networking systems; Developing and evaluating program plans, policies and procedures; Creating network schematics, diagrams and documentation supporting network architecture and design; Installing upgrades or patches and configuring and optimizing network hardware, software, and communication links and documenting details.
You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas:
