Duties
Performs as a journeyman-level aircraft mechanic
Determines when systems, assemblies, or sub-assemblies require repair or when a component should be replaced.
Fills out aircraft logbook using Aircraft Notebook digital maintenance records
Issues instructions or guidance concerning procedures and techniques to be used, assisting or demonstrating performance of complex tasks
Responsible for scheduling maintenance to ensure completion of critical actions and optimum work flow and resources used.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Pre-employment physical and annual physicals while in position.
- Position is Non-Critical Sensitive (T3) that requires the employee to obtain and maintain a Secret Security Clearance.
- The incumbent is required to sign a DA Form 5019-R and must pass urinalysis testing as required prior to appointment and periodically thereafter.
- This position has been identified as being a Key and Mission Essential position and has been designated under the provisions of AR 690-11, Mobilization Planning and Management. See "Additional Information" for more details.
- May be required to work rotating shifts, overtime, weekends, holidays, and/or on-call duty hours.
- TDY may be required up to 10% of the time.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Aircraft Mechanic Leader without more than normal supervision. The ability to lead or supervise in an aviation maintenance section; broad experience with various types of aircraft in order to correct malfunctions of systems, subsystems, major assemblies and components; use diagnostic and test equipment to include operation of ground support equipment. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

Work assignments require moderate to strenuous effort. Workers must climb, bend, stoop, crawl, and stand for prolonged periods on concrete or metal surfaces. They frequently lift parts and equipment that weigh up to 9 kilograms (20 pounds). Occasionally, they may lift and carry items that weigh about 23 kilograms (50 pounds) with mechanical lifting devices or assistance from other workers, if required.
Work is performed in hangar areas, outdoors, in parked aircraft, and sometimes in hazardous noise areas (requires audiometric evaluations).Workers are exposed to extremes in heat, cold, and inclement weather. They often must work in confined spaces and in awkward positions. Dirt, dust, grease, and aircraft fluids are common in the work place. They are exposed to oil, hydraulic fluid, solvents, and hazardous fluids. Cuts, bruises, muscle strain, and injury from falls off scaffolds, ladders, and aircraft surfaces are possible. The inherent dangers of toxic chemicals, unstable working conditions, moving rotor blades and propellers are always present.
