Duties
Plan weekly and monthly work schedules and sequence of operations for subordinates.
Establish deadlines and priorities on the basis of general work schedules and methods and policies established by higher levels of supervision.
Explain work requirements, methods and procedures; Instruct subordinates in new procedures.
Investigates work related problems (e.g., low productivity) to identify causes; implements those corrective actions that can be taken within the limits of incumbents authority.
Develops performance standards, counsels employees on performance, and makes formal and informal performance appraisals.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Position may be filled as a term appointment NTE 2 years. Term appointments may be extended beyond 6 years, up to 8 years. With DoD approval, term appointments may be extended beyond 8 years.
- Current permanent Federal employees (to include permanent Army employees) applying for a term appointment will be appointed/converted into a term appointment with no statutory return rights back to a permanent position.
- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
- This position involves duties which are subject to Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) regulations regarding hazardous wastes.
- This position requires the employee to use personal protective equipment provided by the employer.
- Due to the nature of this position, employees may be required to work both planned and unscheduled overtime.
- TDY Travel of 5% may be required.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Machinist Supervisor without more than normal supervision which includes: (1) Supervising or leading artisans in a manufacturing/ majors/minors value stream industrial environment; (2) Setting work schedules, establishing priorities, and reviewing employees work in progress or upon completion; (3) Planning work sequences to have work completed by established deadlines; and (4)Working knowledge of machining processes, equipment and tools to explain machining operation requirements, methods and procedures. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.
