You will serve as a LEAD ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION SPECIALIST in the ENVIRONMENTAL DIVISION of NAVFAC ENGINEERING CMD MID-ATLANTIC.

Duties

You will brief decision makers on environmental protection program or project status. You will assess the impact of organizational activities on environmental matters related to public welfare and the protection of natural resources. You will conduct environmental facility assessments to identify, correct, and report improper handling, use, storage, or disposal of materials or wastes. You will assess hazardous material or waste generators to ascertain the type or nature of environmental hazards. You will identify environmental training needs to verify the work force maintains proficiency and competency in their assigned duties.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • This is a bargaining unit position.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver’s license.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Implementing and mentoring others on environmental protection programs and environmental laws and regulations; 2) Understanding facilities response plans, Spill Prevention Control and Countermeasure Plan; 3) Conducting site investigations; 4) Responding to spills at a Navy installation and preparing spill reports; 5) Gathering and submitting technical information in support of data calls, taskers, environmental submissions, and reports in assessing program effectiveness; and 6) Coordinating environmental program inspections to ensure compliance with applicable Navy, State, Federal, and local regulatory regulation and policies. Education

In lieu of specialized experience, you may qualify with the following education or combination of both education and experience:

Successfully completed a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree

OR

Successfully completed three full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent degree

OR

OR

Have a combination of experience and graduate education as described above that equates to one year of experience. My percentage of the required education plus my percentage of the required experience equal one hundred percent.
