You will serve as a SECURITY ASSISTANT (OA) in the Suitability & Operations Personnel Security Division of Office Civilian Human Resources Operation Center. ***This Job Opportunity Announcement is using an additional online assessment tool to evaluate applicants. Duties

You will review pre-employment candidate paperwork and run information through the Defense Information System for Security (DISS) system and the Centralized Verification System (CVS). You will initiate background check requirements and provide instructions and assistance with completing pre-screening documents. You will capture both electronic and manual fingerprints for submission to the Federal Bureau of Investigation and state criminal history repositories. You will track all final suitability adjudications and background check dates to determine when reverification background checks are due. You will request and track background investigations through the National Background Investigation Services (NBIS) for adjudication. You will any missing information and/or clarification of criminal charges which do not show final disposition from candidates. You will provide support and/or assist with security in-briefings, including advising new personnel of reporting requirements. You will establish and maintain official suitability files and related security records needed by specialists responsible for the Personnel Security Program.

  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
  • Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.

  • Generally, current federal employees applying for GS jobs must serve at least one year at the next lower grade level. This requirement is called time-in-grade. Time-in-grade requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement.
  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.
  • Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final SECRET security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-06 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: performing full range suitability and security support services (e.g., initiating background checks; tracking background investigations; submitting required security forms, capturing fingerprints); providing candidates with instructions on completing pre-screening documents; and establishing and maintaining official suitability files and related security records. Conditions of Employment Continued:
This position has been identified for the Security Professional Education Development (SPeD) Certification Program. This is the Department of Defense (DoD) Security Certification Program directed by DoD Instruction 3305.13. The SPeD certification is DoD's initiative to professionalize the security workforce by establishing a common set of competencies for security practitioners that promotes interoperability, facilitates professional development and training, and develops a workforce of certified security professionals. This position requires the incumbent obtain the following core SPeD Certification: Security Fundamentals Professional Certification (SFPC) within their first two years of employment.

OCHR Operations has a current Telework policy, that, at a minimum, requires employees to physically report to the official worksite at least twice in each biweekly pay period. Note: All Telework Agreements are subject to approval at the discretion of the Supervisor based on mission requirements. Telework is not guaranteed.
