You will serve as a IT SPECIALIST (APPSW) in the TECHNOLOGY SERVICES ORGANIZATION of HQ US MARINE CORPS.
Duties
You will lead and/or support efforts designed to identify potential improvements in the way information technology is applied to key business functions.
You will serve as a technical advisor to the Programming Team Lead or Section Head specific to IT strategy, implementation planning and standard operating procedures and contribute to the growth and development of junior programmers.
You will respond to problem reports from customers by advising on corrective actions.
You will review production operations to identify, diagnose and correct production-processing issues.
You will participate in all phases of the software development life cycle.
You will analyze functional specifications and technical requirements in order to generate programming cost estimates for SCRs and meet mission objectives.
You will analyze and resolve system or software failures and causes of failures to identify and implement preventative measures.
You will prepare system documentation for purposes of improving software development process as needed.
You will communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing, with peers and leadership within the organization as well as other federal agencies, military services and throughout the DOD.

- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

Qualifications
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector AND in addition, demonstrate the four competencies below. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: designing, programing, documenting, developing, modifying, testing, installing, implementing, analyzing, and translating new or existing applications software (e.g. Java, COBOL, CICS programs, JCL, DB2, Oracle); AND support all aspects of Software Change Requests (SCRs); experience in the programming, trouble shooting and unit testing of source code in support of the MCTFS mainframe system AND generating programming cost estimates for SCRs.

3. IT-related experience demonstrating this competency include: communicating clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing, with peers and leadership within the organization as well as other federal agencies, military services and throughout the DOD.
4. Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations.
