The primary purpose of this position, POWERED SUPPORT SYSTEMS MECHANIC, WG-5378-11, is to serve as a Ground Power Flight Technical expert. Developing technical procedures for test, troubleshoot, modify, repair, and overhaul of a variety of complex Aerospace Ground Equipment assets and engines and components.
Duties
Evaluate and write procedures for installation, inspection, and performing modifications and repairs to electrical power support systems such as electrical power plants and power distribution equipment.
Perform preventive maintenance on electrical power support systems.
Perform major repair, replacement, and overhaul of power support system components such as diesel, multifuel, or gas turbine engines, and electrical accessories of engines.
Troubleshoot electrical power support systems such as power plants and power distribution equipment.
Monitor open 202s and ensure adequate follow-up to prevent 202s from going overdue.
Utilize safety practices and procedures following established safety rules and regulations and maintain a safe and clean work environment

- The work may require the incumbent to drive a motor vehicle up to and including a 2-1/2-ton truck. And appropriate valid driver's license may be required for the position.
- Position may require the incumbent to operate a forklift up to 15,000-pound capacity to move heavy power support equipment.
- Shift work may be required.
- The incumbent may be required to work other than normal duty hours, which may include evenings, weekends, and/or holidays.
- Emergency overtime may be required.
- May be required to train/guide lower-graded (or other trades) military/civilian employees.
- May be required to perform frequent and extensive temporary duty (TDY) at sites in and out of the continental United States.
- This is a Testing Designated position. The employee may be subject to random drug testing.
Qualifications
In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C.
QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-5300 Industrial Equipment Maintenance Family. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Performs work that involves frequent walking, bending, reaching, and crouching, standing, and arm movement. Sometimes must work in awkward positions or cramped areas. Must be able to frequently lift and carry items weighing 25 pounds and overusing jacks, hoists, or helpers.
WORKING CONDITIONS: May work inside or outside. Inside work involves frequent exposure to drafts, changing temperature, and loud noise. Outside work may involve exposure to bad weather, rain or snow, wet, or icy conditions. Both inside and outside, frequently exposed to irritation or discomfort from dust, heat, fumes, and hard damp floors or surfaces. May work on parts and systems which are dirty and greasy, and which may be dangerous to operate or repair because of defects. Incumbent is frequently exposed to the possibility of receiving burns, bruises, strains, and electrical shock while repairing, positioning, adjusting and moving equipment and is exposed to the possibility of receiving bums and skin irritations from acids, fluids, and lubricants. To reduce the dangers and irritations from the above conditions, the incumbent must follow numerous safety procedures and wear equipment such as protective eyeglasses, ear devices, hard hats, hard-toe-shoes, respirators, gloves, and clothing. Some of these safety items may be uncomfortable to wear or use and may be worn or used for long periods.
