The primary purpose of this position, POWERED SUPPORT SYSTEMS MECHANIC LEADER, WL-5378-11 is to lead three or more workers to accomplish trades and/or labor work on a substantially full time and continuing basis. Lead is responsible to perform the work assigned by a supervisor and ensures that subordinates completed assigned work consistent with trades and labor standards
Duties
Lead a team of trades and/or labor workers.
Performs work. Perform nonsupervisory trades and/or labor work that is usually of the same kind and level as members of the work crew led.
Read and study technical orders and approved data as manufacturer's manuals, specifications, prints and schematics.
Use a wide variety of test equipment while performing repair and overhaul tasks.
Maintain records and documents actions.

- PHYSICAL: THIS POSITION REQUIRES A PRE-EMPLOYMENT PHYSICAL.
- The work may require the employee to drive a motor vehicle up to and including a 2-1/2 ton truck. An appropriate valid driver's license may be required for the position.
- Position may require the employee to operate a forklift up to 15,000 pound capacity to move heavy power support equipment.
- Will be required to train/guide lower-graded (or other trades) civilian/contractor employees.
Qualifications
In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C.
QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-5300 Industrial Equipment Maintenance Family. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.

PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

PHYSICAL EFFORTS: The employee frequently performs heavy lifting, pulling, carrying of equipment and material weighing 25 pounds and over with the help of weight handling equipment or with assistance from other workers. Work requires frequent bending, stooping, reaching, crouching, standing, and arm movement. Sometimes must work in awkward positions or in restricted spaces where coordination of hands, legs, and body are needed to perform tasks.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Work may consist of either inside or outside. Inside work involves frequent exposure to drafts, changing temperature, and loud noise. Outside work may involve exposure to bad weather, rain or snow, or wet or icy conditions. Inside and outside work may frequently expose worker to irritation or discomfort from dust, heat, fumes, and hard damp floors or surfaces. May work on parts and systems which are dirty and greasy, and which may be dangerous to operate or repair because of defects. Incumbent is frequently exposed to the possibility of receiving cuts, burns, bruises, strains, and electrical shock while repairing, positioning, adjusting, and moving equipment and is exposed to the possibility of receiving burns and skin irritations from acids, fluids, and lubricants. To reduce the dangers and irritations from the above conditions, the incumbent must follow numerous safety procedures and wear equipment such as protective eyeglasses, ear devices, hard hats, hard-toe shoes, respirators, gloves, and clothing. Some of these safety items may be uncomfortable to wear or use and may be worn or used for long periods.
