A successful candidate in this position will serve as a field point of contact Operations Engineer, for safety related operations and activities of Sandia National Laboratories (SNL), and other Nuclear Weapons Complex (NWC) sites and provides technical guidance and contractor oversight on daily operations and activities at SNL facilities.

Duties

As a General Engineer/Physical Scientist (Operations Engineer) you will Conducts trending and analysis on performance data in support of NNSA oversight. Identifies activities or events that indicate improvements needed. Prepares assessment reports and maintains logs for assigned responsibilities. Meets periodically with NNSA line/program managers to provide information related to the facility and provides recommendations to management. Observes, evaluates and reports on the effectiveness of the operating contractor in multiple areas important to safe, efficient, and productive operations. Provides overview and expert advice for the Occupational Safety and Health program to ensure compliance with the OSHA requirements, work planning and control requirements, and DOE Order 422.1 Conduct of Operations. Prepares assessment reports and maintains logs for assigned responsibilities. Meets periodically with NNSA line/program managers to provide information related to the facility. Provides recommendations to the Assistant Manager. The work of this position encompasses oversight of multiple aspects of contractor operations, including evaluation of management and operations involving hazards such as nano-technologies, nuclear, chemical, pulsed power, mechanical, electrical, biological and explosive.

Qualifications

A qualified candidate's online application and resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower NNSA pay band or GS grade level in the Federal Service (i.e., EN-00/NN-02 or GS-11). Specialized experience for this position is defined as experience conducting at least 3 of the following activities: 1. Conducting oversight of contractor operations including evaluation of management and operations involving diverse hazards. 2. Determining whether a facility or operation is in compliance or noncompliance and the technical adequacy of actions taken or proposed. 3. Conducting inspections, gathering and analyzing facts, evaluating processes, equipment and practices, performing calculations, and reporting findings. 4. Preparing, presenting, and evaluating plans, analyses, reports, and correspondence. 5. Identifying, controlling, mitigating, and eliminating safety hazards in the design and use of facilities, equipment, operations, and work processes.
