About the Position: The Military Entrance Processing Station plays a vital role in maintaining the nation's military might by ensuring that each new member of the Armed Forces: Army, Marines, Navy, Air Force, Space Force & Coast Guard; meets the high mental, moral & medical standards required by the DoD & the military services. Every MEPS represents state of the art in testing, examining & processing applicants for enlistment into the Armed Forces.

Duties

As a Processing Technician (Office Automation), you will: Provide administrative assistance with transportation functions of moving recruits from the MEPS. Coordinate projected shipping dates and status with Service Liaisons. Conduct the pre-enlistment and/or the pre-accession interviews of applicants for enlistment. Enter data in Command automated system(s) to record applicant processing information. Maintain records of orders, distributes copies of transportation orders and enlistment contracts.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position has been designated as non-sensitive and requires a personnel security investigation.
  • Employee may be required to work an occasional Saturday and/or shift work (work before 0600 or after 1800 hours)
  • Employee will routinely be required to work unscheduled overtime to accommodate fluctuations in workload based on the daily mission requirements
  • Employee may be required to perform occasional overnight travel as assigned.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-4). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you may qualify if your education meets the definitions below: Education: Four years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. -OR- Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages. TYPING: This position requires a typing proficiency of at least 40 words per minute (WPM) based on a 5-minute sample with 3 of fewer errors. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Computer SkillsCustomer ServiceOral CommunicationTransportation Time in Grade Requirement: Candidates may be advanced without time restriction up to GS-5, if the position to be filled is no more than two grades above the lowest grade the employee held within the preceding 52 weeks under his or her latest non temporary competitive appointment. To qualify for this position, based on your education, education substitution, or combination of education and experience, you must have either completed the education requirement, or will complete this requirement within 30 days from the closing date of this announcement.
