Duties

Joining the Customs and Border Protection Office of Field Operations will allow you to use your expertise in administration to provide advisory and technical services to management. This position starts at a salary of $107,809.00 (GS-13, Step 1) to $140,155.00 (GS-13, Step 10) Salary above excludes COLA. Please see the following link for specific COLA Rates: COLA and Locality Pay Rates in Nonforeign Areas In this Supervisory Mission Support Specialist position, you will become a key team member of Homeland Security professionals analyzing and refining existing work methods and developing new methods and procedures. Typical work assignments include: Serving as the supervisor to a group of administrative employees and is responsible for assessing the productivity, effectiveness, and efficiency of program operations to include management and information systems, budget, finance, procurement, personnel, telecommunications, logistics, records and files, printing, mail, travel and office equipment. Establishing and carrying out specific action plans or accomplishing short term goals and objectives Developing and prescribing procedures and techniques and furnishes policy guidance to subordinates Establishing production standards and prepares performance requirements for the appraisals of the subordinate staff; advises staff of the performance requirements of their positions and keeps them informed of their progress in meeting the requirements Resolving complaints and grievances not requiring referral to higher authority and makes recommendations for solution of those referred to the next higher organization level.

Qualifications

Experience: You qualify for the GS-13 grade level if you possess 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing duties such as: Identifying, developing, and prescribing new methods or procedures to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of these services. Providing representation for the office in dealings with vendors and organizations within the agency that have primary responsibility for these services. Making decisions and resolving problems involving interpretation of the law or unusual situations requiring interpretation and application of agency policy. Serving as a supervisor to a group of administrative employees who are responsible for assessing the productivity, effectiveness, and efficiency. Resolving complaints and grievances not requiring referral to higher authority and making recommendations for solution of those referred to the next higher organizational level. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. You must: Meet all qualification requirements, including education if applicable to this position, subject to verification at any stage of the application process; and Meet all applicable Time in Grade requirements (current federal employees must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade or equivalent grade band in the federal service) by 11/22/2024. The Office of Personnel Management (OPM) must authorize employment offers made to current or former political appointees. Current and former federal employees may be required to serve or complete a probationary period.
